and noticed the DFG prevention tips did not mention any type of chemical mixture, like 409 commercial disinfectant. Rather, physically remove, freeze, and/or let dry. DFG still has links on their site for the prevention and equipment damage studies...Any reason why they would omit this information in the article? Just curious.

According to Ken Davis, who directed some of the 1st treatment studies, the most recent ones have not confirmed the efficacy of 409 as a disinfectant. The most effective treatments are freezing exposed gear overnight, or elevated temperature for a few hours; the former is definitely easier on your breathables. Copper sulfate is an effective poison but is toxic to the environment so not a good idea, even if you could get your hands on it.
