Big T Little T Trip Report
Permalink

This weekend Oneweight hosted a trip to the Little Truckee and Big Truckee. He was nice enough to open his Tahoe home to a few guests for the weekend. Fishing with Oneweight were Packrat, Brian Clemens, Shon42073 and Matt R. We met at the house about 10:00 Friday morning and hit the Little T. We all fished really hard and caught a few fish. Dinner Friday was at the Blue Coyote where we had great beer served by a Peruvian waitress. The party continued on back at the house where there were lots of good laughs. Saturday morning we fished the Big T starting just a little later than we wanted but we figured we could always blame it on Brian's 3-4 times a day habit. Decent numbers of fish were caught with the average size coming in at a healthy 12 inches. I was hooked up with a MONSTER for a minute but could not move it at all and ended up popping the hook, never saw the fish but it was BIG! We pounded the river until dark then headed back to the Blue Coyote. Hot Buffalo Wings and beer were flowing as I'm sure Oneweight (bring us a 4th pitcher) can attest to. Getting up by 6:30 on Sunday did not come easy for any of us but we managed to be the first fishers on the LT. Brian and myself hooked up really quick but lost both fish. A little later I hooked and landed 2 good fish. Several other nice fish were hooked and lost by us in the next couple of hours. MattR landed a sweet 20 inch brown, he's got the pics on his camera. At the same hole Brian hooked up a nice one and lost it. Matt hooked up right after that on a football but it came off. Oneweight showed us how it's done with a little know technique that's works amazingly well, and landed a great 20 inch bow. I have an action shot but I'm sworn not to give up the technique, sorry guys I promised.

At the end of the weekend I came home having met some great flyfishers that I would fish with anytime...thanks guys!

Pic 1, yes they do s _ _ t in the woods.

Thanks for making it up, what a great weekend.  Unfortunately for Brian, he had a wardrobe malfunction the first day on the Little T, and he was walking gingerly for the next 2 days.  I'll let him tell you more.  I found 4 guys who like flyfishing, HOT chicken wings and wheat beer as much as I do.  These are the times that make fly fishing really enjoyable for me . . .  what a geat time, and fishing was only part of it!

I'm too embarassed to give up any details on the aformentioned fishing technique aluded to in the other posts, but it was a great laugh.  The weather was outstanding, the rivers are in good shape and fall fishing should only get better for the next 6 weeks or so.

I had a couple of slow days on the LT, with some good looks, but only a little action.  The Truckee was better, decent numbers of smaller fish, but stripping Cutters Goblin and having some Brownies just hammer it was fun.  I had a large fish following it, but was unable to make him commit and seal the deal.  He's probably still laughing at me.  Again, great time guys, let's do it again!!

good times and even better laughs. hands down the best trip that i have had yet. not the best fishing, but never the less it was some great times, and it will have to be done again very soon. maybe a trinity trip. how knows.

yes bears do sh-t in the woods. was that a number 2 for number 2 of the day. oh yes it was.

the malfunction is not funny but the aftermath of me walking around bow legged like i got pounded in the ars is. well i have to types of underwear. ones that are good and not made for wet wading, and other ones that are great for wet wading. well i forgot to take them off and went into the water. i didnt have any problems until the end of the day when my crotch and ass area was on fire, and it wasnt from the hot wings. man it was bad. i already cant grow hair in that area from my past yrs of working out and having very large legs, but not i dont know if ill be able to grow skin. anyways i got home last night and put some of my special sause on it and i am glad to say my chaffed ass is all better. thanks for making fun of me guys it really made me not think about the pain. glad i could arouse a few laughs in my discomfort.

as far as fishing goes, i did very well on the first day on the truckee, hooking 5 fish and landing 3, 1 14"er, 1 football 16"er and one long 18"er these 2 were from the same run and just got pounded by the other 3 which made me fell really good about my presentation and my mid day plater i was offering. which was a tan pupah and a grey rs2, which i know packrat will state the same thing. that is a rocking good fly for the lil t. the same spot that i landed the 14"er, i hooked a beast that i had on for a second and came off. i later hooked another nice 14-15"er in a shallow run but came off as well. the next day on the truckee i was out of my game, my ass hurt very badly, i wasnt feeling good (tummy problems) and i just couldnt get into a rythum. i eventually hooked and landed a sweet big whopping 8"er as well as a 4"er and that was it. i can attest to packrats big boy, he never got a good look at it, but i was standing behind him when he hooked it, and well all i saw was a shadow, a very big shadow, well over the 20" mark. and lets just say this run was on fire and definitly would hold some huge pigs.

so again that night when to the blue coyote for some food and BEERS, LOTS OF BEERS, thanks oneweight for making me remember the good ol times with beers and friends, it was a great time.

the next day was even tougher, my chaffing was still hurting, but healing at the same time, so it was very itchy, and well it was a tough rise, got on the water and my first cast hooked a nice rocket ship that shot straight upstream a nice 16"er and came off a few seconds after. i knew it was gonna be tough. proceeded down stream loosing 2 set ups quickly on a down tree. man i was hurtin. fished hard for the next few hours with nada, the other guys doing well. then we got to out chain gain. this secret will go to our grave but it was a bunch of laughs, looked like a mini AR sailor bar photo. i hooked 2 nice fish one of which really got the best off me with a great take off move, the other just did a few headshakes and was off.
the pic of that brown was great, man i wish i was there for ya matt, oh well, but hey, ATLEAST YOU GOT A PHOTO. hahaha. hey oneweight nice fish, the technic you used was flawless.

GREAT TIMES, GREAT HOST, AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST GREAT FRIENDS.
thank you all for attending, it wouldnt have been the same with out you all.
a big thanks to bob, aka oneweight for hosting this advanture. it was great,
and we should plan another one soon, maybe trinity, i know it will be fishing
great when i get back from ny.

see you all soon.
this maybe my last post for a bit, but dont fret, i will be on the st lawrence river at the end of my vacation and will be fly fishing for large largemouth bass, and some huge northern pike and muskys. and hopefully ill get a few and post about my outing.

tight lines
brian

Only place I've seen it is Nugget Market in Vacaville. It's good stuff. I thinks its from Big Sky Brewing or something like that.

I saw a bear Shi**ing in the woods when we were at the Trinity a couple weeks ago. Couldn't be Brian, could it? Emerger saw it too...lol. Brian, your last 2 trips have been rough. First your pounding headache at the Trinity, then this whole Truckee incident. You know how my waders have leaks in them around the crotch area. Well I was starting to get that rash thing too, but not as bad as yours sounded. Sounds like a great trip. The laughs probably made it worth it....Plus the good fishing.

Hey what is going on Brian?  Where is the page long report on the Trinity?  Are there any steelies up there yet?  Kienes board is reporting half pounders are in down by Weitchipec.  Not sure on the spelling of Witchapec, but down where the Trinity and Klamath intersect.

Personally I think Brian is just covering his tracks.  We had these great HOT wings at the Blue Coyote.  The wings were slopped with this wicked hot sauce that you couldn't help but get all over your hands when eating.  Well, put one and one together and I think you can get the real answer on Brian's problem.
