I have not been out to the creek in a few weeks...My wife and I have been busy enjoying our little boy who was born on my birthday earlier this month.. I had a few hours to kill around mid day.. So I made my way up to the creek. Not going to say what stretch or water I visited today ,but I will tell you that my good old jumbo micro may is still doing the trick...Most of the fish I caught were first year fish and well fed...I lost 4, three fly rigs to the unknown below, but well worth it for the amount of action I had in my 2 1/2 hr get away ...I stopped trying to count some wear around 11 fish after the first hour.. Water had a bit of color to it.I dont know how long its been that way ? Ant's kept falling on me , from the trees above so I tied one on and picked up a more fish..Never done that on putah before..First time for everything..Ton of bee's out as well , but Bono has the recipe for those...Hey Bono! can I have one of your bee's Pleeese
Right on mx, bet it felt great to get out. congrats on the newborn flyfisherman. Creek has had some color in it for the last few weeks. doesnt seem to be getting better or worse as far as I can tell. I kinda like it though. Yeah lots of bees especially when you stink like a trout. and interesting about the ants. I've yet to use an ant in putah.
Sooooo I see Mr Mx remembers the notorious BONO BEE.I'll bee happy to kick you down a few but we have to hook up and fish together first!I have tried this pattern a couple of times recently considering the copious amount of yellow jackets I've been seeing this season so far,but have'nt had much luck yet.
Good job out there Steven. Congrats again on your son. I was out riding at Stonyford this past weekend, and I have to say my suspension has been working better than ever. Not only can you fish, you can dial in forks!! I was out today and I tried a weighted bumble bee pattern from Ted Fay. It didn't work, but the old micro mayfly was working well. A few large soft hackles were working a little. There was a pretty good hatch of BWOs and a few larger mayflies. I fished quite a few spots up and down the river and most were pretty good. Nothing big, but it was fun to get out of the float tube.
I had a bee stimulator that I use to use as an indicator for lower flows but I lost it 2 years ago in a tree...It was the bomb...I have tried other similar patters ,but none of them had the mojo from my long lost bumble-lator.....
Otter...you must of eaten a little dust up at stoney...hot and dry....Glad to hear you are enjoying your bike....I still need to get you out to my track ...lets set up a date and ride...
