One of my guide friends did an on-the-water class on the Truckee last Saturday at one of the Hirschdale runs. There was plenty of water flowing, but the water temperature was around 70 degrees. Any trout that were caught were holding down deep. The few trout that bit targeted caddis flies like Fox's Radical Caddis, Burk's Bottom Roller, and Anderson's Bird of Prey worked well. Bring crawdad patterns and some sculpin patterns, too.

I fished the Truckee last week. caught alot of fish but couldnt get the big boys to bite this time. FISH EARLY and find something else to do during the day. What kind of hunting are you thinking about? There's campgrounds everywhere.

hahaha, yonkers havent been called that in a long time. good one matt.

but you wanna know what makes it 10 times worse is that i was a marksman in the military, shot a 39 out of 40 with the m-16, and i got his gun scoped to a T, i can shoot this thing with a 2" group at 300 yrds. ya buddy. thats as far as i can go because its only a 300 yrd field at the shooting range in lincoln. oh well. ill just have to keep on keeping on it and make that group smaller, i think i need to start making my own bullets, then i will have a better group.

The fishing was good. I caught a brown and 2 rainbows, in one day of serious fishing. We went rafting today and saw all the big fish were in the deep pools upstream of Alpine meadows RD. We had lunch at the place we pulled out of. me beinging well... me, i had to go to the car and look at the map one last time. I poped the trunk and looked at the map and put it back, and closed the trunk..... with the key inside! my dad has to have one of those stupid electronic trunk locks. we sat there until the "special" AAA guy came, and took 50 of my dollars. by then it was too late, we went home.

Remember:
Fish real deep in these pools, in the stretches of clear river-bottem, between the green river plants.

Location: there is a very low (to the water) green bridge a bit up (towards the lake) from Alpine meadows Rd. All the deep pools up from there looked great.

P.S. Brian, we never went hunting. we just did some target shooting outside of squaw, in the Natl. Forest.
We brought our 32 S&w Iver johnson Cadet. conrats on the 30-06!
