STINKING POACHERS ON PUTAH!!!

Can someone tell me the limit regs for putah (no..no..no.. not because I want to keep fish, I am strictly catch and release) but because I have been to putah and sometimes seen bait fisherman walking out with a stringer full of fish the size that I know they are over their limit furious.  It pisses me off and I would like to know the regs so I can write up a report to fish and game with these bozos plate numbers and report them for poaching!

5 fish per person, no size limit (which really suck)

If you see it happen try and get photos. No doubt many of us have seen it happen, but if you dont get photo's nothing can happen. Poachers piss everyone off and if I was president/dictator I would castrate the sons of bitches. However the state of california and uncle sam seem to think a fiscal punishment deters more people... not mention PETA and human rights organizations. Anyways point is take photos and then report them

Its a never ending cycle on putah creek. I still to this day cannot beleive some of the garbage that comes out of some of those spinfishers pie holes. Thank goodness that most of em dont have the skill to bag a wild trout. They go out there catch a stringer of planters and parade em around like its something to be proud of. Last summer i heard a guy bragging how he can keep 20 fish today because his kids were with him. There all just 90 percenters, I mean come on just watch em fish, THEY SUCK ! I here about how some waters are highly pressured, yeah highly pressured by people that dont have a clue how to fish. Ok i'll stop ranting now.

Were they wild or planters? If there were wild fish that would be really sad and upsetting. But if they were planters why not keep them? That what they are there for, no?

Not sure because the last time I was fishing and saw this the bum had one stringer he ran by me on a path above me to his car. It seemed to be a limit but he quickly and stealthly came back to get what seemed to be a limit and a half more of fish. I was alone and he was a big ass dude and was carrying what seemed to be a knife so I couldnt do much without him noticing. You know if you are fishing alone on putah ( as anywhere) you got to be careful around people. One thing I have learned the hard way is that you can never trust someone on the water no matter how friendly and innocent they look. Continue trying to keep putah fished by the rules, and remember every little effort to catch these poachers will eventually pay off.

Fear no fish, you are right on, it is not a good idea to try to take enforce the law. It is sad that people seem to never get enough. Fish and Game is totally under staffed and frankly I have never seen them on the creek.

Some years ago I saw some guys poaching during the winter months. I was nice to them commented on the big fish and told them that they are really lucky they weren't caught because they just missed the ranger, you should have seen them run smile.gif

I would guess that a lot of us have run into this situation on Putah.  You guys have the right solution.  Usually a mention of the regs and the fact that DF & G or Solano County Park Rangers will cite them on the spot is usually enough to clear them out.  It's amazing how many of those people just have no clue what the regs are for season and limit.  Many of them are  just do not know the regs and some are just pieholes.  And yes, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Last year there were two poachers on the Truckee down by Floriston.  A fly fisher confronted these guys and got his butt kicked, he went to the hospital afterwards due to his injuries from the encounter.  He got a picture of the poacher's truck.  Using the picture, Sierra County Sherriff's arrested the guys in Reno about a month later and they were charged with Assault and Battery.

Pictures do help, just use good judgement on any confrontation/ conversations.

I cannot believe there is no size limit or at least a slot for the sizes you can take, being from Montana  where every river is carefully managed its shocking that a fishery like this is not better protected.

True, Other states manage there rivers much better and actually have alot less funds to do it with then california does. It's a slow process but there's alot more size and slot limits then there was say 20 years ago. It'll take awhile but I'm pretty sure most all trout rivers and streams will have sive and slot limits, I think the most important thing is to make em all artifials only.
