The creek is still fishing pretty well. The flows are high, but the fish are willing. I fished all of my go-to spots and found that I had the most action in shallow pockets and runs. Sometimes I do very well in the deep pools and slack water, but nothing today, although I did hook the best fish right off the edge of a shelf. Even in the shallower water, I needed to load on quite a bit of weight to get down (I was running two ABs for most of the day). Fishwise, I got 9 to hand and easily hooked double that. They were mostly small, football-shaped natives between around 10-15" that actually managed to straighten the hooks on a few of my flies. The biggest fish of the day was about 18" and she threw the hook right at the net after a long battle. None of the flies I was using were deadly. They all had hot moments and then went off. The best flies of the day were a large micromay (size 14 or 16) and a small green midge (size 20), although many other typical patterns had some success too (e.g., san juan worm). Overall, it was a lot of hard work out there and the pay off was only marginally good for what Putah can produce. It's beautiful out there though. And my last word of advice is not to buy the waterproof casing for the Sony Cybershot digital cameras. I lost a very expensive camera to water damage yesterday becuase the thing leaked!
