Fished the Snake River right below Jackson, WY.  Believe it or not the water is still just too high for the fish to be looking up. The area got 170% of a normal snow fall last winter and they are letting out a lot of water of the lake and the river is running fast and high.  Still managed about 15 nice fish on a dry fly and missed quite a few more.  This is still one of the most beautiful rivers to float.

The South Fork is on Fire !!!!

This was probably the best fishing day of my entire trip!!

It seemed like it was non-stop "Fish On".  About 50 fish today and missed more.

They were grabbing hoppers and being very agressive about it. Caught lot's of large cutthroats, cutbows, rainbows and browns.

Good story about this fish.  I'd been fishing a riffle and had caught 4 or 5 nice cuttys.  Things slowed down and I decided to try a different fly, so I grabbed my 4-weight and low and behold caught this big brown.  It was so exciting to hook this guy on my 4-wt.

Fished the South Fork of the Snake again. This time we fished the upper section at the Palisades Reservoir Dam on down to the South Fork Lodge. The weather was much cooler and windier when we launched at the Dam so the fishing started out slow.  It was also unfortunate that Vice President Cheney decided to Helicopter in and fish the same section of the river. Maybe I should say that he and 12 Secret Service Agents and Sheriffs and more crowded the river in boats surrounding the VP.

After a lunch of BBQ'd Elk Steaks, courtesy of Guide Stacey Hill, the fishing picked up nicely. I managed over 20 nice fish, all on dry flies.

Yes, I am definitely sad about the trip ending, but I am already planning next years trip.

There are so many rivers that I haven't fished and areas I haven't explored.

For the past 12 years I've used Greg Falk of Upstream Anglers.

He's a great guy and really knows how to do it right.  He makes a full day out of it, none of this off the river by 5:00 unless you want to.  He also does a really great Wildlife Adventure trip as well as Wolf Safari into Yellowstone.

Take a look at   http://www.upstreamanglers.com/fishing.html

Make sure you mention my name.

I guess I was really spoiled doing all the dry fly and streamer fishing.

I did do a little nymphing early in the morning on the Elk River in BC with a HUGE san juan worm, as well as some hopper dropper stuff.

This was the first time that I've thrown a double dry fly and a double hopper, both which were very effective.

I do have to admit that after streamer fishing at Kelly Galloups Slide Inn on the Madison River that I am a total streamer addict.  The way those fish come after that streamer is such a rush!!  I had no idea a trout could swim that fast!!  They are very aggressive !!!!!!!!!   I am going to try and go back in October to streamer fish for BIG browns for a couple of days.

Kelly Galloup really tempted me by saying that's when the BIG Browns come up out of the lake into the Madison.  He's talking trophy size Browns on a streamer.  biggrin

Great report and great pictures.   With your details, others will have a chance when they visit that part of the country.

Thanks.
