what a difference a day makes

Got out on friday for a float on the creek. Fishing was really slow. Only hooked a couple fish and got nothing to the net.  Had a good one on for awhile but never saw it as the pig stayed down deep, than it took a great drag screaming run as soon as it stopped I figured I'd get to the reel and get some turns back. just about to grab the reel and the fish rips more line out the handle hits my finger and pop goes the tippet.  Kinda laughed at myself thinking it's been a long time since that's happened. O'well got more flies, tye on antother and keep pluggin away.   Later in the day with fishing still slow here comes brian clemens paddling up the creek in a pontoon boat. Good to see you Brian should been there on saturday.

Wasn't satisfied with fridays results. So hit it again on saturday. Saw a couple of other guys fishing.  Not sure how they did but they didnt stick around too long.  Wasn't too long after getting started and got a good takedown but a couple of quick headshakes and that was that. But that's ok you know ya got something working for ya when ya get a quick bite.  Soon after another take down this time fish is stuck and the fight is on.  Great fight and into the net goes a fat 20"er. sweet!..    Take a break and get back to it and another takedown and yet another big fish. Damn how I love this creek.  Still throwing that size 16 micromay.(who gave that tip up was it Otter or mx? Whoever it was thankyou very much) I get hammered again another pig. This time the fight was really on and an intense battle it was and I still cant believe I won. 20 minutes later another one. Now I'm thinking wtf???  My best day yet.

My favorite time of year is here when the fish are frickin fat and they fight like there's no tomorrow. Even though they will be realeased to see tomorrow

I was one of the other guys floating that morning. When you lifted that fish for me I thought I recognized that voice! Had I been sure it was you I would have come up and said hi. Next time bro. While we were in that area with you I caught a 10" stocker and hooked into something big that ended up breaking me off in the weeds. Never saw him so I can't be sure just how big it was but it felt heavy. Both fish took a 16 S&M nymph. We ended up floating another area where I got into 4 more smaller fish, all wild and a 19" fatty that took me 15 minutes to get him to hand. All they wanted was a fox poopah. Gotta love those feisty trout!

I was out for a bit Saturday morning on my pontoon up near the campground. Got quite a few hits on a double bead head and olive bugger. Saw alot of fish jumpin and alot of blue damsel's (unfortunately, didn't have any in my box). Been a while since I've been to the creek, but it was a beautiful and enjoyable morning even though I had no hook-ups. As always, completed the survey.

Nice fish Matt.

Take Care All,
John

Sounds like the action is still hot and heavy. I've never tubed Putah before, but with these kind of results, I think it's definitely worth a try. Thanks for the report! Those are some gorgeous bows.

It sounds there was a platoon of boats on the creek this past weekend.  I'm glad I was out roosting by buddies up at Georgetown.  Nice fish Matt.  Sounds like you were getting into the fish again Cliff.

Watch out for the otters guys they will swim under your boat and bite your feetbiggrin

Since quite a few of you have boats now, I was thinking we should get a group together and float from the lower campground down to the lower dam.  Maybe a campout, fish friday evening and saturday morning or saturday evening sunday morning.  Maybe a beer or two.smile

And yeah I try to stay away from those biting otters.

you can count me in to. hopefully by that time ill have my fins and a trolling motor too. yes i said trolling motor. i have the hobie float cat 75, which comes with a trolling motor attachment, and blackcloud was nice enough to make a basket to put a battery in. it was a little tough moving that pontoon around with just the oars, i think with fins it will be better, and with a trolling motor i wont have to use the oars, man i am lazy. hahaha

but ya count me in too. with or without the trolling motor i am in.

Thanks again mx19 for the hot tip of the spring/summer with that jumbo micro may, I love using bigger than normal hooks. I got so used to using nothing but 20-22's at the creek. And I know where there's a bikini hatch on the American. goes off around noon every weekend just below the sunrise foot bridge. the hatch can get real wild further down river later in the afternoon.wink

brian solano does not allow trolling motor. I tried to put in a small boat with a trolling motor and the ranger stopped me before I put it in. he said it was a 500 dollar fine. he told be it does something to the bottom of the river, I don't know what cause I stopped listening cause he was an a-hole. must be cause I'm not from around there.

i need to get my yak out there... Was out there Monday by the first island trying to wade... Bad idea.. Holy flows batman! I swore it was like wading the American. Lucky I didnt take a dip but it took me a long time to get to my spots. Needless to say, I didnt catch anything but it was fun.

Are you guys anchoring or just floating along?

I guess you could anchor, but I usually hang out in back eddies.
