Some of you have been asking about places to fish in the Sierra:
I attempted to beat the heat on Monday with a full day of fishing around Dardanelle/Kennedy Meadows area. Numerous 6 to 9 inch wild bows and brookies, a couple of misplaced planters, and a handful of 12 to 13 inch beauties.
After reading older posts from last summer, I decided to spend a few hours "prospecting" Disaster Creek. Only hiked about a half mile up the trail/creek--very little room, lots of bushwhacking. My 3 weight was overkill.
A yellow stimulator with a flashback PT dropper pretty much stayed on the line. Nymphed a few holes and swung a soft hackle when needed. Around 6:30, pale duns appeared. Many of the bushes were loaded with small, dark caddisflies.
I came across only ONE other fisherman the whole day. Probably a combination of a Monday and the end of the 4th of July weekend. Like others have posted--Get a Move On!!! This is not trophy trout water, but...
For the little brookie fans--Captain...
Just starting to get some color

Hi FD, Thanks for sharing your report. Little brookies are fun especially if you have the light gear. They will always put a smile on our faces when we catch them. I moved away from the Central Valley back in 2000. Thank you for the reminder of the great places up that way.
Great report dutchman, I'm heading up there in about 2 weeks, plan to fish 5 days, on clarks fork, disaster, and middle stan. Disaster is supposed to have some lohanton cutts in it ? Great brookie pics you gotta love em, as geirach puts it there kinda the readheaded step child of trout. Thanx for the info and pics.
AbelBoy-I appreciate the comments. Pretty spectacular jumps from that little guy!
Shaun-5 days--Hmmmm, sounds like a pork-n-beans trip... Planning on spending more time at Disaster Creek this year? I don't think I went up far enough--similar to what happened to you last summer. The fish at Disaster were extremely spooky. After casually approaching new water a few times, I realized that I needed to apply some of those comical stalking tactics/pictures from Curtis Creek Manifesto.

Yeah it gets tough going pretty quick going up disaster creek. I hear ya on the stealth, A pair of knee pads might be in my near future . I find the belly crawl the funniest, Dam hard to cast laying on your belly ! This time I hope to make it at least a few miles up the clark fork were the road ends. The area is one of my favorites. Hell yeah, Bring on the pork and beans and grilled brookies, Now thats gourmet stuff there. Oh and I once thought about putting some sticks and bushes in my hat to look like a tree. I do hope to make it very far up diaster this time.
Shon- I used to fish Clark Fork years ago with my grandpa. Just you mentioning it brings up great memories...I had kind of forgoten about that area. Have you ever hiked up from the end of that road? I think I need to make a trip back up there this summer!
I hiked up a bit last summer, Not nearly as far as I wanted due to a nagging hip injury at the time. Its one of my favorite rivers. Theres a great meadow area for dispearsed camping at the end of the road. as long as you get away from the campgrounds I found it pretty much fast action for little guys.
