My favorite west slope river right now is the middle fork stanislaus below beardsly reservoir, The clark fork of the stan also is one that is dear to me because its packed full of brookies and brookies are cool.  While in the area you can also hit disaster creek wich has lahonton cutthroats, I'm actually going up there for 5 days in a few weeks, You could even meet me up there for some fishing if you want to. If you head up any hwy that takes you into the sierras you will find plenty of water. I'd suggest some national forest maps. Or try a local book store they have plenty of sierra fishing guides to get you started.

The NF yuba river drainage has several:

1.  Salmon Creek which turns into the NF Yuba right below Bassetts.
2.  Haypress Creek just above Sierra City- lots of brookies.
3.  The Downie River which flows into Downieville.
4.  Butcher Ranch Creek above Sierra City
5.  Lavezzola Creek above Downieville
6.  Pauley Creek above Downieville.
7.  Upper stetches of NF Yuba above Sierra City.

There is a great book about this drainage titled "Fishing California's North Yuba River by Ed Klingelhofer.  It is available in about any fly shop and is very detailed.

All streams have great dry fly fishing.  You can run into a bit of streamside brush at times, as well as a bit of poison oak.  If you like to camp, there are probably 20 campgrounds in the area as well as motel in Downieville and Sierra City.  Hope this helps.

Another good spot that gets no pressure is the Middle Fork of the American River above Oxbow Res. out of Foresthill near Auburn. Go out Foresthill Road and turn right onto Mosquito Ridge Road. You'll see Oxbow as you're coming down the hill. Park at the Ralston picnic area and hike upstream. It's small tight water with lots of willing fish. Casting can be tricky because of brush lining the stream but it's manageable.

There is also Sagehen Creek and Prosser Creek in the Tahoe area.
