Hit the water at #5 today.Skip the first two runs. some people were swimming , and someone was fishing the other spot and there was a dog playing in the water in between them..So I started on the back side of the split and worked my way up the creek.I pulled fish from every run I fished on the back side.If I didnt get into the fish after a few drifts I made the needed adjustments to find them..I hooked and landed 17 fish from the five spots I fished...I never fished the skinny water at the top of the split. The hot fly was my jumbo micro may that I have been doing well with since the start of spring...On the way out I met SK60.We shared a beat up piece of water and I gave him my last jumbo micro may ..
The big difference from monday to today was how I fished.I hit the water today knowing I had to work a little harder .The fish are being more selective .In my opinion, almost was not going to get the job done.Last week I didnt have to try very hard to put 20 fish in the net. This week I had to work at it.Ajusting leader length, shot size and good solid drifts.I had faith in my fly choice and I brought my A game..I believe those changes made the difference for me..

I think JL and Flygirl ate all the blackberries.. I hope your fingers are black...:)

ya well atleast someone had a good day, i wanted to fish my spot between 2-3 and well water was just way to fast, so headed down to 5, and well i have never had any success down there, but what the hay, well as it goes, i had one nice bump and that was it, fish was on and off within a blink of an eye lash. so moved up to the bridge. worked the water above the stair step with nothing, slowly worked my way up and to the campground side of the bridge nothing, slowly worked my way down and decided to switch up to a black micro may and jts new and improved jt midge, and first cast i got hammered, this fish took off so fast i couldnt get a good hook set, managed to bring it in close enough to get a great glance a nice health football 16-18"s then it came undone and the flies almost hooked me. after that slowly worked my way around the bridge area for a big 0 then up to dry creek for the same. then at about 1pm i called it a day. putah kicked my ARS today. great job mx19, maybe next time we can meet up and try to get into some fish.

its about time for me to get a cheap vise and flying materials to makes some flies, i hate not having what i need and making due with what i got. rs2, jt midges, bc pupah specials, and a few other easy flies here i come. anyone have any good ideas for cheap vise and what not.

thanks
brian

Sorry, I'm not buying any of this stuff. I have only seen two fish at #5 this year.
I have been putting on the mask and fins and have seen next to nothing.
I think the state swiped the F&G license money to try to balance their problems
resulting in hatcheries skimping on the planting. They all need to be kicked out of office.

your right about the state taking money, but here is a link for you guys to read, just food for thought, just about what the govenator is doing to our F&Gs, and our fisheries. pisses me off.

about the fish at #5 i have no idea. i havent had much luck back there, maybe 4 fish out of the 10 times i have tried fishing it, fishing buddies of mine have killed fish out there though.

I would take offense if I was a story teller, but none taken...A business associate once told me."With success come's doubt" but She spelt it like this  "jealousy "     I know your not buying it , but Iam not trying to sell it...

After MX left on Thursday, I put on his MicroMay and crossed over to the back side of #5. Saw 1 fish rise to something and caught 2 small footballs by tying on longer tippet and tight lining along the bank, so thats 3 fish. Going back had a 12-14"er on a crystal bugger befor a long distance release, so thats 4 in the area. I fish #5 alot all year and find it as dependable as any other piece. They are not stacked up as you you might find at the dam. What was encouraging to me is that the two I caught were young, fat fish. The survey reports from winter listed few small wild fish caught. Since end of April more small fish are being reported, One criteriafor obtaining Wild Trout status for PC is demonstration of a balanced age distribution, so please keep completing the surveys.

Been lurking on the board for some time now. Reading the posts and reports, have met some of you on the creek. I personally have fished with MX, multiple times and all I can say is that the guy can fish! I believe him.

MX-19 has been making stuff up his whole life.

When I fished the Yuba with him, he made up the fact that he caught 7 fish in an hour to my zero (I redeemed myself later that day), when we fished access five together a few months ago he also made up that he caught three fish to my one LDR (no redemption that day), and I'm sure he's making the rest up.

Keep lying MX.

A lot of the fish we have caught in the last month have been first year fish .Small ,but fat and still have some paw marks..Not many fish over 14"...I dont think they did much planting this year..I have not been up by the bridge yet and I have not seen any pail, beat up skinny 12" yet down in the #5 area...

For the record:

I realize my previous post (on rereading it today) could have been interpreted as me really saying MX lied about stuff.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

He's probably one of the top guys fish-catch wise on this board.  (though I'm not sure  he can cast a dry - but that's only cuz he kills em nymphing :)  ).

In all seriousness, I was being sarcastic and MX is a total stud fisherman.

If you get the chance to fish with him, do it.  Just don't let him drive or he might get you stuck in the rocks with his two wheel drive van.

While I may not have been with him @ #5, I have fished with MX19 on more than a few other occasions. In just about every situation he can stick fish. ( I too, have never seen him cast a dry )

The last thing I would call him is a "story-teller".

But, I have known him to tell a "fib" while fishing the Yuba. He claimed to be doing "poorly", not telling me about the three chromers he just caught, so I didn't feel bad about my single 8" fish of the day.

When MX tells me he did well with a #14 MM, I know the first bug I am throwing next time out. Take these posts as a little "kernel of wisdom" being shared, not an arrogant boast or line of bull.
