6/15 - finally, a great night

Got out to the creek sunday around 5:30.  Hit access five.

didn't see another person, which was nice.

Was still about 90 degrees, so I decided to wet - wade.  I may not do that again b/c the poison oak on the trails is becoming pretty hard to avoid, and waders can help with that.

Anyway, as I headed out to the split, I saw quite a few baetis hatching and flying around.  I'd also heard from another putah fisher that brown micro mays (size 14) had been working.  The mayflies hatching were smaller, so I tied on a green caddis poopah and a size 18 grey beadhead rs2-type emerger and started nymphing.

From the first cast, the action was great - best I've seen in months.  I hooked at least 20 fish, landed about 18 and probably missed 10-12.

At one point, in about 10 casts, I had 6 or 7 fish.  Nothing huge, but nothing smaller than 9-10 inches either.

Hooked 1 about 16, but most were 12-14 inches.

Not one fish was landed on the caddis.  Everyone one came on the grey mayfly.

So why didn't I tie on two mayflies?  I did, but on my first cast I lost both in the bushes... by that time it was dry-fly time, but after 10 minutes with no hookups I got bored and left.

If you see little mayflies hatching, tie one on and get ready.

PS - great way to find lots of what's hatching (esp. mayfiles) is to hunt around for a spider web - you'll find lots of what's on the menu there.
