I fished the E. Carson on saturday with a friend, did some exploring and found this little trib. It was real skinny water, five feet at it's widest with undercut banks. We caught 6 between 15" to16" with the largest being 20". Black woolies were the ticket but I think anything that looked like food would have done the trick. We also caught a few small brookies.
Holy cow . . . small water to say the least!!!!! Wooly Buggers in that little thing . . . I never would have thought. Way to go, those are some really nice fish. I am guessing that the fishing in there was better than the East Carson right now?
I'm making a Truckee/ Little T run this weekend for three days. It siounds like they're really coming into shape. I can't wait to see.
Both the east and west carson were offcolor with the east running about 600. With the tempeture finally warming up they both should be perfect in about three weeks.
I'll be up there Fri. - Mon., hopefully, I can stumble accross that same tributary or one of my own. I don't think you should post the location but you mind telling me above or below Hangman's?
How did the E. Carson fish? When I was there a few weeks ago it was flowing around 1200-1400 and not very adventagious to catching fish.
Nice! I too love wandering up small tributaries. Lots of times there are some real cool sight fishing opportunities if you are stealthy.
Captain, this reminds me - if you fish the Upper Owens, you will notice a fair number of dinky irrigation canals that break off from the main river. These have lots of tiny fish, but in the undercut bends there are some whoppers lurking. Pull a streamer through some of those and you might be surprised at the result.
These little tribs are always fun to fish. Most have small brookies so we were surprised at the size of these cuts. I agree this little creek could not handle any pressure but there are other ones out there like it and Eric was right about the undercut banks. The only other thing I can tell is that it was above Hangmans bridge. We caught no fish on the e, Carson
way to go black cloud, i love the east and west carson rivers, this area is were i started fly fishing, its a great place to fish, and if you know the area well, and the tribs you can get into some nice fish, like you did. the key is exploring.
