I have been away for a while and was thinking about a trip up this week or next. Any news on the planter front, have they started? I always want to avoid the sections with those hopeless little guys in it if I can.
putah was planted about 2 weeks ago, lake solano was planted this week, next scheduled plant for putah is sometime next week. I dont think putah is place to hope for a brown trout. The trout are planted at the access areas, they carry em down in buckets and dump em in, so if you dont want to bother with em then get away from easy access.
I had word that you could nail some big browns on float tube in lake solano last month. Planters are fun when there's nothing holding in the deeper waters I just wanted to know if they started yet..looks like they have. Damn, missed it by a week.
I have been fishing Laugunitas recently as it's about 2 miles from the house. Healthy stockers all, with a very small river otter who's made this lake and it's planters home and hearth.
After about a week those planters that survive this "moveable feast" you can get on dries. If you're fishing up here try something small size 18 in a grey pattern at sunset or early morning.
A river otter in Lagunitas? That guy is probably having a field day!! I wonder where it came from, I have never seen otters in any of the Marin lakes. It is about five miles from my house and good for a quick ride to go fishing. Big browns in Solano? I was thinking you would be a good candidate to scuba or snorkel the area to find them!!
Early this Winter I caught a 23 inch brown. The bad news is that I foul-hooked it. Since my indicator did got down, this fish was at least "semi-legitimate". In any case, it was a very mature, fat, beautiful male and as impressive a fish as I have ever caught from Putah. It had been 8 or 9 years since I had caught a brown from Putah so it was a huge surprise when I landed it. So I know that there is at least one nice brown still left in the creek.
