Nice fish Chris. I saw someone along the highway by your spot with a small inflatable boat yesterday around 5:30. Was that you? We were heading back from bass fishing on Berryessa and there were a lot of cars on the creek.
What a couple of nice spring rainbows on Putah. I haven't looked lately, I imagine the flow are getting higher?? That must have made things pretty challenging. Again, beauties on the fish.
Flows are about 550 cfs, but they have stabilized this past week. The wind also died down this weekend which was good. Flies of choice are a thread body micro mayfly size 20 and caddis patterns. The caddis hatch was pretty good last night. Twitch the flies or troll using your fins and the fish will "wack em".
Chemdoc that was probably me I have heard rumors that you landed a nice fish in that area using a wooly bugger. How was the bass fishing? Are you guys using fly rods? I probably saw like fifty boats coming off Berryessa last night. Most of them were big wake boats. Can't wait to get out on the wakeboard this summer. You guys probably hate the wakeboarders.
Since I saw the increase in flows, I've been wanting to get out there in my float tube but haven't made it yet. I haven't fished the creek since February. That's not like me. I think I'll have to do something about that soon.

I did catch a nice one there last year in that spot fishing with Jason, and a couple of weeks ago I got a beauty on the olive bugger and a sinktip line in the same area. This time of year and through the summer I have good success with the woolly buggers, usually in faster water. But once in a while I haul my pontoon boat out. That water is amazingly deep in spots. I have a 24 ft anchor rope and in one area it doesn't even touch bottom.
We were fishing with conventional gear for bass yesterday on Berryessa. I have almost no experience with that and found it took a while to get used to casting something other than a fly rod. My lack of experience showed, but I did manage 9 fish. That would be a nice afternoon, but my friend caught at least 30. We did release all as we do when fly fishing as well.
As to the wakeboarders, my buddy did have a few choice words as they would fly by and stir up the water, but the coves were empty and we had the fishing pretty much to ourselves.
I wish I had one Jason. I'll have to be satisfied with the one you took for me last year. I am still interested in getting a copy of that one if we happen to connect on the creek one of these days.
Regarding bass fishing, I've got to admit that I think the "Nitro Extreme" theme is pretty hot. I wonder how I can apply that to light 2 wt dryfly action. I've been thinking of trying some lower sections of the creek for bass. Once I was sitting watching a painting demo at the arboretum on campus and saw a very large black bass jump. I was wondering if I showed up with a rod if the campus law enforcement would drag me off. . .
Doc, fish the points not the coves. 0315 and I'm heading to work, I'll pm you some info later this evening. This time of the year 30 fish to hand is marginal success.

Are the bass on there spawning beds at this time ? I would assume so. Hey Yukon, you should try putah creek below the cement dam, in winters, theres alot of bass in there, but you need a float tube.
