as i grew up in the YC i decided to make a trip up to see the family and well....hit up the yuba of course. What can i say i have been addicted to that river since i was a kid (for those of you who just started fishing it, you should have seen it 10 years ago, amazing). I used to fish the hallwood area but since the high water a couple years back its just not a good spot anymore. Decided to hit up my usual spots between sycamore and parks bar, got there around 2. 2 fish to hand, 3 more hookups, pretty slow (all fish caught on tan caddis pupa). Talked to another yuba regular who was having no luck. To my suprise, the weather was great but not much bug activity to speak of, few march browns, pmds, but nothing consistent, only saw one fish rise all day, big change from the htaches i saw two weeks ago. Has anyone been up around the bridge in the last few days, and if so has there been better bug activity up there?

Thanks for the report Drifter. I think I met you on the Yuba a few weeks back....if that was you thanks for giving me a few of your special flies, that really made my day.
your welcome for the flies jmo, they always seem to do the trick. And as per our conversation on the river, yes that area is private. Ive seen people walk up and around but it is ilegal, median high water mark is at the top of the big boulder. Although ive always wanted to fish up there i have always respected those property rights, theres plenty of good spots on the river and I think as a fisherman we should respect those rights. It is the property owners who care about their land that make an effort to maintan proper erosion control, keep the trash throwers out, etc that help to maintan the excellent quality of this river. Just my two cents, but to each his own.

You can go upriver of those boulders on the other side of the river. Its tough but not all that bad, it requires 2 long river crossings and some humpin. I was curious if theres any public access point close to englebright dam ? Thanks for the report drifter, I'm trying it on sunday.
We headed up to the yuba on 4/4, and in spite of some pretty stiff wind, there were 4 different hatches that went on during the day . . . PMD"S, March Brown's, SKwala's (couldn't believe it!) and caddis. There were a good number of fish rising all over from about 11 AM on. We had a good day on the river. Landed more fish than usual, but no monsters. One was nineteen, 5 in the 12-15" range. Several missed strikes along the way as well. My buddy landed 4 and lost a few more, all in the same size range.
Just about everyone around us was landing fish, and there were some nice ones. Without the wind, it could have been an epic day.
I fished on 4/6 and it was pretty much just as oneweight said. There were alot of fish working the hatch but with the wind it made it very diffucult, 2 nice ones hooked and lost on a #16 brown elk hair caddis. May have been a great day without the wind. Water was so choppy made it diffucult to see your fly on there, It was like fishing on a wind swept lake later in the day.
HELP!!! I'm stuck on I-70 near Vail looking at 6'of snow and more falling fast. I'm headed straight to the Yuba on my way in. I was hoping to be there tommorrow pm. Anybody else goin ?
