It bothers me when I see pictures of fish on the rocks..I see that in some they are wet rocks , but it just bugs me.I read some topics on fishing nets a while ago and everyone who chimed in was Oh so worried about the well being of the fish and what net would be least harmful. Then the topic went the direction of how people remove the hook and do the take the fish out of the water and so on..Then I see some of the same worried people with pictures of the fish they got laying on the rocks..
it just bugs me...I good friend told me that the moment you remove the fish from the water you should hold you breath till you put it back in,cause thats what the fish is going through.I cant count how many hundreds of fish I caught this year and I think I only took a dozen photos and all of them were lifted out of the water and put right back in after the picture was taken...
I have a friend who takes all kinds of pictures of the fish he catches ,but I think he dose it cause he thinks I will never believe him if I was not there to see him catch it...

just my thoughts and I dont know if its very bad for them or not...

Yeah I agree, putting fish on rocks isn't the best idea. Wet rocks are much better than dry ones that's for sure....

But hey, I've done it. I try not to, though.

Keep in mind when you pick a fish up out of the water, its been fighting and runnining and its tired and "out of breath". Holding your breath for 15 seconds after running a mile is tough for most people.

That's why nets are good biggrin

Sorry, but I am one of those guys who has to weigh in on the other side of this.  Obviously, I am one of those guys who enjoy taking pictures of what i catch.  I think that part of the fun for me is enjoying the beauty of the fish in a picture.  Some fish are silver, some green, some gold, etc., etc.  Am I careful to take a quick 5-10 second flick, leaving the fish in a net in the water, totally submerged beforehand?  You better believe it.

I take pictures when I golf,  when I ski and when I fish.  If you do it in the correct manner, you do not harm the fish any further than what was done in fighting the fish .  Why would I not enjoy what I am doing for sport and remeber a memorable fish with a long term photo?

Everyone has their own thoughts and opinions on matters, it doesn't make one right or wrong.  In my opinion, as long as what you are doing does not harm the fish, what can possibly be wrong with a picture?  Enjoy the memories, there will be a day and time in our lives when we are not able to fish.  The only thing a person can look back on is the memories and pictures.

I hope none of this is pointing to me because of my picture. You can clearly see the fish is laying on wet rocks, and I only held him out of the water to get him on those rocks so
I wouldn't have to drag him over them. Once I took the picture he was right back in the water. It only took about 7-8 seconds. I'm just saying this in case anyone thinks my fish is being harmed.

ONEWEIGHT,

I'm not against taking pics, I definitely encourage it! I always try to take pics.

Putting a fish on the dry rocks, or grass or dirt, or touching it with dry hands is a different story.

I agree completely.  A thorough soaking of any ground that a fish is to be placed on is really a necessity for that guy!!!!!  he's been through a lot.

I try to keep the fish in the net in deeper water and move then move it to shallow water for a quick pic.  If no one else is around.  The best way to take a pic is to quickly hold it up by having one hand around the tail and one below the belly.  Have your buddy ready for the cover shot.

No the fish were camera shy last weekend, so I just let them go. I have a new net almost as big as JTs and it is hard to get the fish out while float tubing.

Isn't it easier to get the fish in the net, though.  With a 9 ft rod and those Putah hogs, you need all the help you can get.
