I met up with ChucktheDuck today on the creek.  I was worried when I saw the chocolate milk in Lake Solano, but we found some fishable water.  I landed an 18" rainbow on a #20 micromay.  I had another fish slam my fly on the swing and straighten my hook.

It was a pretty slow day, but it could have been worse.  I almost fell when we first got there.  I slipped between the rocks but grabbed onto them as the water reached my chest pack.  I have no idea how deep the water is in that spot.  That would have been a pretty bad start.

Lake Solano is totally brown.  The bridge area is fishable, though.  Everybody will be crowding around there until the clarity improves a little more.  If I were you, I would check out the Lower Stan.  I would have been down there myself if I didn't have school today.

Jt Dont tell em the bridge area is fishable biggrin. Nice to see ya on the water today JT and Chuck. I ended up with 4 hookups and 3 fish to hand, A 18, 16, and a 12 incher. Hooked 2 fish on a yellow globug, One on a #16 pheasant tail, and 1 on a #16 olive fox pupah.  Missed 2 other defenite hits. Best Day at putah I have had in atleast a month, Hopefully it'll pickup from here. Also was the most insect activity I have seen in well over a month, Really got going for a bit around 2 p.m, Midges, caddis, Even some skittering caddis, Few mayflies, and also noticed alot of moths flying around and a few of these red and black beetles. I think with the weather forecast for this week that most of putah will be fishable by next weekend. I almost forgot to mention, The fish I hooked today were all HOT ! Wont be long before there all back and healthy, recovered from the spawn. Sounds like JT got a hot one as well, Hook straightener...headbang.gif.

Not that its important to fishing, but the black and red beetles, the Valley Elder Berry Longhorn Beetle, is an endangered species, so treat them nicely. The moths may be the aquatic species that lives in the creek as a larval stage-another potential target for fly tyers.

I don't think the trout care if they are endangered.

I hope that everyone who's out fishing is remembering to fill out the Putah Creek Angler Surveys.  It's very important that we gather this information and forward it to the DFG.

Thanks

I snuck away from work today and got in about 3 hours on putah, 3 to 6 p.m, lots of bugs coming off when i first got there but quickly sputtered out, I think i would have had better luck getting there a bit earlier. had one good hit and no hookups. But was a bueatiful day, no wind, nice and warm, Good way to get a quick fix during the work week.
