just wondering what you guys think of these reels. i know that jt has a cassette reel from sth and he likes it.

Well i've never seen or used one, but based on the information you provided it doesn't seem to be that bad...

As long as its solid machined aluminum and has a smooth drag, you will do fine. I'd have to check it out to pass anymore judgement, though.

Its listed as pretty light too. That is good!

thanks for the info on the dtp, i was out on the AR yesterday and it was the slowest its ever been, maybe 4-5 hook ups all day, thats not just me thats everyone fishin in that chute area. i had one take which became a fish on, this fish shook hard, came out of the water and the streamer was right in the corner of the mouth, then my line went limp then the fish took off, and off hard, then i noticed that the hook was now in the dorsal fin so i managed to get it undone. that was the only take or hook up i had all day.

the sth reel held up well. the drag was nice, and yes it is very light. cant complain one bit about the reel. cant wait to get out and try to get a few more hook ups on it.

I have an STH reel on my 6wt.  It's not the best of reels.  One feature I like, though, is that it's a cassette reel, which makes it easy to change lines while fishing.  The cassettes are also way cheaper than having to buy separate spools.

hopefully my yuba trip on friday goes through and ill give that reel a work out. wish my 6wt was back from being fixed, but well i havent even sent it out yet so thats i dont have it back yet. so ill just have to use my 7wt for nymphing and streamers, and my 5wt for dry flies. hopefully the reel will get a work out on the yuba. and i kinda miss putah, so might hit it up on weds, depending on the weather. if its gonna be real windy ill just hit up the AR. so putah weather permitting, the yuba rain sleet wind or snow i am there.
