Had a great day on the creek today. Perfect weather and not too many people around. I caught three fish with the biggest one at 17 1/2 inches. The others were 16 in. They were not skinny looking spawned out fish. They were males with some big shoulders on them. Then, just when I thought that things couldn't get any better, I fell in. First time that has happened to me in a long time. After getting skunked the last few times out, I didn't care about filling up my waders.
It's good to hear someone is out there on the creek. Tug, it sounds like you had a great day. Would you be willing to fall in every time you fished if it meant you could catch some nice fish? In the summer, that would be a definite yes. I wet wade anyway. I don't know about the winter, though.

Fortunately there was no one around to see me take a dip. I was a little embarrassed by it but truthfully, it felt good and I didn't care because I didn't get skunked. I used to wet wade also but I saw a guy come out of Hat Creek up in Cassel with a huge black leech stuck to his leg. That ended my wet wading career.
Great to hear you caught some fish. I was in Tahoe this weekend skiing and I decided to hit up the East Carson for a little bit. Did more snowshoeing than fishing. As I was crossing the river (in only about a foot of water) one of my feet slipped and I took a headfirst plunge. Brrr!! That sure does rev you up for a bit.
I dont care for leeches much either, As a kid we used to go swimming in the west branch of the feather river and leeches were really bad in some spots, Really had to check yourself because they were really small. I once saw a thing on t.v were some guys were doing an adventure race in south america and while swimming a rather large leech entered this guys body threw a certain hole, Use your imagination, It was pretty gross.
That really sucks JMO 32 a headfirst plunge, I can't even imagine. I fished there in late october once when there was ice on the edges and did really well on midges. I was up in Truckee and Squaw Valley last week and did take a look at the Truckee. The river was flowing and there were some hardcores fishing, but not for me. Did fish Putah on the way up and caught one.
OK flying dutchman what the heck is that avatar? Is that a moldy turkey drumstick or what? It kinda looks like a shot of the earth, but the land is green. Maybe mars?
Hey wytEurp. I was using a black bunny leech in the slower runs. It was the first time I ever used a streamer at putah and they were hitting it pretty hard.
Caption for the pic goes something like this: Probably taken by the space shuttle, shows the Sierra Nevada, and most of California, from a point somewhere above the west coast of Oregon. The view is to the southeast and clearly shows the extent of winter snows and the relationship of the range to the Great Central Valley.
Simply put, it's where I enjoy fishing--from a different perspective! Thanks for asking.

Thanks flying dutchman for clearing that up. I have been looking at that image for awhile trying to figure out what that was. The color of the land is deceptive. It looks like Baja is covered with clouds as well.
I hit the creek today and didn't even get a bite. The wind was howling and the water is still green. Last year at this time there was a great caddis hatch every evening. I tried every caddis pattern I had to no avail.
Two skunks in a row. I fished on Saturday and didn't get a bite either. I did meet BrunoCarp and he was having better luck than me. Nice meeting you and your fishing buddy Brunocarp. I'm giving up fishing and heading up to the mountains to throw mud at my buddies!!!
