Fished 4 hours midday starting at the usual area. Used my new flies, a copper brassie and then a RS2. At the end of a long drift downstream, the RS2 got slammed and the fish made quite a few knuckle busting runs as I adjusted the drag slightly. The fish was unusually strong but there were no obstacles to break me off. Still I couldnt believe how strong this fish was until I saw that he was foul hooked on the tail. Took me 5 minutes. Landed him and released. about 18" big rainbow

After nothing else I drove off and went exploring and found a new spot. There I bumped into a friendly fisherman named Jeff (my name is Alan). He even gave me some of his homemade flies. Sorry Jeff, I felt I didn't have anything to trade since most of my flies are untested as I'm just starting out. But I will definately try them out. Thanks.

How was the water. Was it clear or a green tint. I live down the street from a putah creek diversion canal. The water right now has a green tint to it. I am wondering how much it changes between where I am in Vacaville and say the first couple of access points.

I fished putah today from about 10 a.m till 4:30 and fishing was very slow, Managed to hook one really nice fish that broke me off, It hit a micro mayfly type of pattern with a copper wire body, It's been a good consistent fly. Very little insect activity, very few fish rising, very few fish seen, Its like they spawned and then disapeared, Come to think of it putah hasn't fished well since that big first rain we got a few weeks ago. Can't complain though, absolutly bueatiful day. After fishing the american yesterday being on putah was like having a river to yourself. Hey, throwinmetal, A brassie is a great putah fly, In my opinion, about size 20.

I also fished Putah today, weather was great, water was greenish but visibility not too bad, landed 3 planters and connected about 2 sec. with another, first fish of the year after 4 skunks (and late December has been tough too)... 2 landed swinging a #14 aggravator, both fish within a few minutes, last one took an egg. The fish lost hit either the egg or the mayfly emerger behind...
