1/25 battling the high winds, and rain on the AR......

well we all know the weather wasnt perfect, but had a good fishing buddy, chuch the duck, with me and we made it out there. and thats all that matters.

well it was slow, really slow, the winds were not lettin up, i got so many tangles. no one was hooking up.

me and chucky finally did, almost had doubles, but about 1 minute apart. the one i hook was around 20"s, and he came undone, i was tryin to have a lil bit of fun but we all know what happens when we do that. we dont land the fish. right after mine came off chuck hooked up for a second. but he never saw it.

fished till about 2 and got some taco bell. chuck took off for work, and well i went back down and battled the wind and rain.

way way way slow, but finally hooked into a hog, hog of a salmon that is, a good hefty monster salmon, it was bigger than the steelie that i got at 34, either way it was way way big, and he wasnt to happy i hooked him, took me for a joy ride, i could do anything with him, took my all the way to my backing and then some, finally got about half my line back and i called it a draw, no one was gaining any ground on the other, so did my best to break off and i did.

again not to many hook ups, then darkness came upon us to the point where we cant see the indicator but just barely can make it out, mostly going by feel, then all of a sudden i got hammered, and it took off hard. when i finally got it to land it was a fat ars 22" steelie, with great colors, bright pink strip and chrome as chrome can be, i took 2 pics one without a light and one with. i hope they come out ok. only time will tell.

so besides the weather it was an ok day. hooked a few and landed one. cant complain with that. and i got to fish with an old friend. cant go wrong there.

hey chuck, still dont know about monday, guess the russian is blown out. putah is at 600 cfs, so who knows how that will be on monday. packrat said that the yuba might be good, and also that he might have to work. but no one knows yet. all by ear. probably will be last minute plans on where we go.

but a yuba trip would be nice.

CAPPY GET MONDAY OFF SUCKER.

Brian,

Damn, I'm glad we didn't drift the AR today, we would've been blown back into Folsom Lake!  Man, it would have been absolutely miserable to say the least.  Not enough Irish whiskey in the world to make it warm enough.  As I said, another time soon.

If you're thinking the Yuba, let me offer some assistance before you go.  When it rains like this, check your river flow chart on the Departmewnt of Water Resources website.  Listed under the Yuba River is Deer Creek, which inflows to the Yuba.  If Deer creek is over 90 CFS, the Yuba will be chocolate and a waste of a drive.  If Deer Creek stays down, and the Yuba is under 1300CFS, it will be very wadeable.

I hit the Yuba pretty regularly, both drifting and wading, and this is my experience.

thanks oneweight

well deer creek is at 280, and the yuba is at 850. i am guessing it wouldnt be worth it, or maybe depending on today and tomorrow.

hey one weight, i was looking at a map of the yuba, are you talkin about dry creek or deer creek, the only creek that i see that might be a problem is dry creek, which is below the 20 bridge. so kinda confused on this one.

but by the looks of it, i think if we stay above sycamore ranch we might be ok. or am i just dreaming.

Yes, Deer Creek inflows higher up and really muds up with some rain, then dumps it into the Yuba. The 90 CFS seems to be the critical number for Deer Creek. If it doesn't rain much tonight, you might be okay. I expect right now that the Yuba is chocolate and just starting to clear.
