As dtp916 said, I use my net for measuring.  The hoop of the net is 17".  The entire length of the net is 24".  I also have marks every 2" from 18-26" on my Scott rods.  So when I'm using my 5wt it's easy to get an accurate measurement.

i was going to guess 20-21 inches on your fish cappy, sorry it has taken so long to chime in, i had a great day on the american yesterday and was way pooped. my ribs still hurt from the fish that i landed. ill post about that later.

as far as the fishes goes, all messured with the rod first then with a tap measure. you ask how. well from my the part facing the guides to the first guide is 27 inches, he went over that first guide by a half an inch. i also had a tape measure with me as well. so i double checked just to make sure. so all fish landed and release where all measured with a tap measure.

even though i had a great day on putah, one that i definitly wont ever forget. I WANTED MORE. guess i am greedy. FLY FISHING IS JUST LIKE CRACK. YOU ALWAYS WANT MORE.

so me and wyteurp fished the american yesterday, and what a day it was......

to be continued in the other streams rivers lakes and what ever else isnt putah creek.

Guys,

You know what this is beginning to sound like, and my wife  keeps arguing with me . . . Under any circumstances, the fish are nice!!!!  Hey, I would like to throw something out there, lots of talk about the Truckee area in the summer, I have a place in Truckee, sleeps 8 in beds, comfortably.  Perhaps we can set up a trip in the summer????  First beer is on me.

Bob

Mid July would be good on the Truckee, Little truckee, and surrounding areas.

Nothing compared to crowds on Putah creek.

The T flows from Lake Tahoe to Pyramid Lake, NV - there is plenty of water to find solitude.

The little Truckee gets pounded on a summer weekend, mid week is the ticket there but can still be crowded. The Truckee, as mentioned has lots of water to find solitude. Put me down for a bed in that cabin!

I agree, that looks like a 20 to 21 inch fish to me.  But Packrat, I can see those other fish look about the size you say, but that one in the middle (of which we can only see the middle) does not look like a 16 inch fish. Hard to tell from that pic, but if that is 16 inches, it is a very fat 16 inch fish.

Here is the full body shot of the 16 incher.

Guys, I love all the free beer I'm hearing about!!!!!  The LT does get pounded in July, but there are place to hit.  The Truckee always has places to go, sometimes it just means heading 6 miles east on I-80.  Also. the Middle Fork of the Feather and the North Fork Yuba, as well as Middle Fork Yuba are 45 mins. to an hour away.  There's smaller stuff, i.e. Sagehen, close by as well.

Personally, when I'm in Truckee I say why drive an hour away.  Too much good fishing within 15 minutes of the place.  By the way, it does have a big refrigerator for those cold ones.

I'll send out a post in April or May and see what we can get rolling with this.

Did you happen to see my goals for the new year... One of them was to fish the Truckee for the first time. I hope I'm invited. I can bring the twinkies, donuts, and beef jerky.

North Yuba and Haypress Creek near Wild Plum Road in Sierraville are in my top 5 favorite places to fish. Possibilities are endless!
