Hello everyone at Putah Creek Fishing Forum. I have been reading the forum now for about 6 months, thats when i started this completely engrossing hobby. I have read with interest every post within the last 6 months, I can say I have been able to learn quite a lot with the info that is avaliable here and I thank you all for that. I started fishing Putah last summer and being a novice didn't do very well. But after a few trips I caught a few fish, not big mind you but extremely fun.  Then on Xmas eve on my way to Sac. i stopped by Putah and on my first drift, which was right against the bank I felt a little resistence, I started to lift and WHAM, I have never encountered such a shot of adrenelan like that in my life!!! At this stage of my fly fishing career the hook-up is worth every minute on the water. I saw the fish before it straightened the hook and I won't say how big I think it was, but the next time I will have the camera ready...bla.. bla.. bla, i know let me get to my question. A friend of my uncle is coming in from Montana this week, he is a guide there. I'm wondering what if anything I should do to make his time on Putah enjoyable. Is there any kind protocal to follow or is this just another day on the creek. If anybody has any comments on this I would appreciate them.

Welcome to the forum. There really is no protocol to follow other than to let the spawning fish do there thing, stay off of the redds and try to focus on the non-spawners.Last but not least have a good time and catch some fish!

Hey Greg, thanks for the reply. We will definitly stay away from the spawners and the redds, that is not how we fish. I didn't know how there would be any kind of protocal but it never hurts to ask. Since I started fly fishing thats all i've been doing, asking questions! The nice thing about it is i've been getting a lot of helpful answers. Oh by the way, how soon are fly orders shipped or do you deliver to the creek? Just kidding! Thanks again and look forward to meeting everyone at some time.

Also, there are new NZMS. Make sure to wash your gear thoroughly after you fish the creek.

Thanks for mentioning that Mr whippersnapper very very important info that sometimes we tend to forget about. The flies can be sent out as soon as I get the order that is unless I have to tie some of the patterns then it could take a few days or so.And yes I can deliver to the creek if I'm in the area which I am quite alot.

Thanks LilWhippersnapper that was the first thing mentioned to my guest. He had already heard about the NZMS and appreciated getting the information. I told him to just put waders and boots into the freezer overnite and that should take care of those little critters! By the way the rookie (me) outfished all the experienced fisherman Sat. I caught one small about 10inches and the showstopper a nice 20incher that tailwalked halfway across the creek, it lite everyone up!! Nothing Sun. or Mon. oh well, I'll just keep fishing. Thanks for your replys
