I've asked around and figured out the basics and such, but where the heck should I go. Also the Names of "magical" flies for the area you recommend or other useful info would be very Appreciated.

Ive fished the american river its right in my backyard great river youll need waiders period you can forget about fishing it without em..........
Good patters for it will be
Schaffers 3D.....Egg patterns.....glo bugs are nice.....Prince nymphs......Cadis Pupah (Foxs Poopah) those are the ones that are common others may tell ya different patterns.......The ones ive told you stick with fly sizes round 10-12 and get some 2X tippet strong line will be needed along with a strong rod 6 wT +
ill send ya a PM bout good spots along it..............
You might try the Russian River. I think I saw a post that you're located in Marin, so this would be the closest river with steelhead. I read posts that the river is starting to clear up, but flows are up around 1,500 cfs; 1,200 cfs is reported to be an ideal level to allow fishing. There are a few public access locations: Steelhead Beach and the Wohler Bridge. I think parking costs $5. Go to flies include: glo-balls, comets, and bosses. I carry these flies, as well as few different colors of buggers, clouser minnows, various stone flies, and some estaz eggs. With the flows up you are going to need a sink-tip line.
