well besides the 30 weeks at the academy at butte college near marysville, here is what else is involved in becoming a dfg officer. i can tell you this, it wont be easy, and it wont be a trip in the park, but if i buckle down and dedicate myself anything is possible. especially if i am going to take 3 yrs to do it. i sure better be dedicated, ill be 30 when i finish if i start schooling in sept this yr.
so the journey starts here.
this is from the officer that does the recruiting for the dfg position. i am that much closer, but so far away.
Brian Here is the info you requested. I'm going to school right now to get in the dfg... but not a warden. I'm gonna try to be fish and game technician. I need 1 year of college with 6 units in biological science, or 6 months of experience in the natural resources field.
nice bro, i was thinkin about that too. but i want to be in the field so bad its not even funny. tech huh, what do they do. fix the fishies when they are sick. hahaha

Brian, All the luck to you. Have you considered a BS degree? you know, with what the GI Bill is paying right now, you might not even have to work! Being a member of the "Humboldt Mafia" (what Humboldt wildlife grads are called) has put on top of any job that i've applied to. And as far as age goes, shoot, i'm 32 and barely starting my career.
well i kinda got screwed with the gi bill, i was on the sick bed that day, and that was the day they did the gi bill signing, so i never got it. kinda pissed about that.
my sis in new york has taken some of these classes and so has her bf. she might even think about the dfg career as well.
she has sent me some interesting info about being a cali resident, stating that you can get free tuition if you are a cali res, i am looking into it, it has to deal with community colleges though. we shall see, things are looking up, but still scared about going back to school. but i think i might finally put myself to the test and actually finish something that i started. something that i love, and is a life changing experience.

Brian-Congrats. Butte College is near Chico-quite a bit farther north-beautiful campus in the middle of nowhere. Thw good thing is you are within an hour of several good trout streams, including Butte Creek, Feather river, Deer creek, etc, etc, etc.
that is the one good thing i get to look forward to when i do go to the academy for the 30 weeks got some great fisheries to get into. i cant wait.
ehammer, i wouldnt be enviouse the car biz is horrible now, the longer i stay in it, the more i think i will never get out. if i am gonna do this i need to do it now.
me and jt emailed a tad bit behind the scenes about colleges and what i should do, he is saying my best bet would be a double AS degree one in biological science (like environmental management or wildlife and fisheries management) along with some sort of AS degree in law enforcement (like criminology or police science).
there are a few website i can go to get grants and what not, but cant be stupid with the money or i have to pay it back.
well i do have a crap load of work ahead of me, but it will pay off in the end.
thanks everyone for the confidence booster. i am scared and anxious at the same time. hopefully come sept ill be going to school and saying no to car sales.
and dont worry guys and gals ill never forget about lil ol putah. ill make it out everyonce in a while. gotta get rid of that stress some how. just promise me one thing, youll save me a few to catch.

Of course a Bachelor's degree is always better than an Associate's degree, but a Bachelor's is not required for the position. I think you'd have a good chance of getting in with two Associate's degrees (one in biological sciences and one in law enforcement). I would get a few more opinions on the subject, though. That woud be a good question to ask the person in charge of recruiting.

Brian, once you fish the creeks and streams in Butte county you won't want to come back and fish Putah. Putah is not the holy grail of fly fishing, there is soooo much more out there.
As mentioned, Deer Creek, one of my favorite places ever.
well give me about 3-4 yrs and they will be in my back yard.

i know exactly what you mean about gettin out alive. i cant wait to get out of this hell hole we call car sales. ill be a wreak when i get out but glad. its all good bro.
looks like i can go full tme and get a crap load of grants, due to not making any money last yr, so thats a plus.
hey wyteurp you ready to bang some heads tomorrow. i sure am.

If you have aDD214 and a hononable discharge you get educational benefits under the G.I. Bill. You make it sound like they were handing the Bill out of the back of a moving truck and you didn't catch yours
just want to say thank you to all that have giving me positive responses to me becoming a dfg officer, it means a lot. dont worry in about 3 yrs i will make you all proud.
again thanks for the POSITIVE POSTS brian
