Hey Folks, new guy here....I have been reading all your posts for months and I want to thank all of you for your valuable information. I am new to the fly fishing game and I am hooked, line and sinker. I went to the Putah about a month ago and my day ended very abruptly because of my absent mindedness. Anyone up for showing a new guy how to "Tame the Putah." Or at least a day of fly fishing and good conversation...None of my buddies have the time or the passion of fly fishing like I do...I am self-proclaimed not very good at it yet...the more practice the better...Merry Christmas to all and to all a good "Fight"...by a hog
Hello AKA new guy, welcome to the board. My name is James , I am Black Cloud on the board. I've fished Putah creek for about eight years and know it pretty well. I am always willing to give advice and show you some spots on the creek.
Hey newguy;Welcome to the website,I'm gonna say something that I've never said before and hope I dont regret it.I'm the dude thats responsible for this site, the guy who pays the $$ to run the site and also the guy who is the guide, and am instumental in making Putah a better place for us all by bringing an awareness of issues to the creek through this site and among other things have helped and am helping form a non-profit org dedicated to Putah. This is a little payback for bringing the extra pressure to the creek that I know that I have when I became a guide and especially when I started this web site.I still stuggle with this,it's kinda bitter sweet for me. This site was started basically to promote my guide service, then it turned into the site that it is with over 500 registerd members and a ranking of around 30 or so of all the flyfishing websites worldwide.Ironically I lose business because of this site, the vast majority of my buisness comes from out of state. Most of my local business just goes to the website and finds a willing angler to give some streamside help and "presto" I've just lost another client and there is no shortage of people willing to help on this site.It would be a smart business move for me to shut this site down and rely soley on referrals but I've decided not to do this because I also use this site as a catalyst to convey info that is beneficial to making Putah a better place,I am also afraid of having my house fire bombed if I do shut it down!!I chime in every once in a while but rarely ever need to as the members seem to have great info that anwers most any questions that are asked.I'm always open for questions by e-mail or better yet phone as most question deserve a lengthy answer and I'm a slow typer! Anyway there is another option for those of you who want to learn the creek that nobody ever mentions....hire a guide (hint hint).
I'm sure Bono gets some flack for having this site but I would disagree with those that feel that way. I think this site has done more good then harm to our creek. One thing i have personally noticed is that the fishing reports this winter seem to be alot more vague then last year, I know I have learned that lesson the hard way. I know that in the past I have posted information or pics. that maybe i should not have, I guess its part of learning this fly fishing game. Anyways I hope Bono continues to have this website, Besides if ya stopped it somebody else would just start another one. There is one question that i would like to ask Bono, And that would be....About how often do you get to fish putah for your own personal pleasure?
I have often read this board, and been able to sort of "intuit" what was happening here. In the sense that it has taken on a life of its own.
While I see and hear how the board has not necessarily hit the mark of your original intent, I hope you get some satisfaction from what it has become.
I am extrodinarily grateful for the views expressed on your board. As valuable as some of the "direction" is, I've found that my time on the water has been my greatest teacher.
If for any reason I needed or just wanted to accelerate my learning, or add new skills Bono is definately someone I'd call!
~This is an uncompensated endorsement~ ha haThe opinions expressed here are those of the poster, and should be taken with a grain of salt, except for the stuff about Bono, who the poster has never met, but holds in good regard. Just go fish, and hire Bono if you want to get better faster, or have no patience for the minutia!

Thanks guys, yes the direction the site is now going is I believe a very good thing, especially with all of the very important info that is now and will be coming out with the formation of our nonproft group dedicated to Putah. So keep an eye open and we'll keep you all posted. Thanks again Bono
Hey Capt I'm sorry I forgot to answer you're question about how much or often do I get to fish the creek. The answer is not enough!Back in the day I used to fish the creek an average of 3 to 4 times a week ,year round. But with age comes responsibilities like children a career and a wife that likes to see me more than once a month. Not counting time guiding on the creek I probably only fish Putah once every couple of weeks maybe a little more.Fortunately guiding gives me my fix and keeps me connected to the creek.
