Fishing isnt about catching fish, its not about who caught the most, or who caught the biggest, its about the experience that you have on the water, and the life long bonds you make with others on the journey to becoming a better person inside.
I'm sure that putah will be chocolate milk for a bit now, I wouldn't bother with it this weekend. Really sucks to drive to a river and have it be unfishable. Just trying to help ya all out, No reason to waste time fishing in mud.
i was there last sunday the water levels are up maybe 6 inches. The water wasnt crystal clear but its not all brown and dirty.... id say its on a scale from 1-10 it was 6 1/2 to 7
there were a few guys flyfishing there and one hooked up for bout 1 minute lost the fish though
its definately fishable.....i might take a trip out there tommorow just to see how the rains affected it this week.
Ill let ya know how it looks but thats how it was bout 3-4 days ago
I was at Putah this afternoon visibility was between 6-12". It was brown, not even 'steelie' green. I'd give it about 2 or 3 days with no rain, may be fishable by Saturday but not sure with the upcoming storm tomorrow.
I was really shocked at the clarity, I was there on Monday and visibility was about 2'. I didn't think we got much rain yesterday but I guess it was enough. Here is a fatty from Monday. They're still there.
A black midge pattern that I created, you can see it barely in its mouth. It's either a #16 or 18. Don't remember, I was using bigger flies with heavier tippet since the water was a bit murky.
Here's a pic of the midge, but this one is red. It works too. It's body is a material called midge-bodi, the thorax is just dubbed and I add a bead and a strand of krystal flash doubled over.
The midge-bodi material--Is that the same as midge diamond braid? I purchased a few packs (different colors) a few weeks back to play around with...Yours appear to sit better, less bulk...I've only tried a few flies with them. Mine appear too fat for 18 and smaller. Just curious.
Oh, nice looking fly...

The stuff is a little different than diamond braid, I know the stuff you are talking about and the midge-bodi is much different. The midge-bodi is much finer and it lays down much better than diamond braid. We did have some in my dad's fly shop in Pleasanton, I think we should still have some.
The midge-bodi is made by Spirit River and I have no idea if other companies make it.
Another option is to take out the inside filament which will just leave the mylar. Don't know if that will work but its another option.
