I usually try to avoid the busy weekends, but will be out there on Monday now that Christmas break has begun (well, besides the finals I have to give on Tuesday and Wednesday).  If anyone is out that day I'll be trying to catch one of those big fish myself and am always glad to meet up with fellow posters.  I'm easy to spot driving a gray Honda Element.  So don't catch all of the fish this weekend Captain.

I will be tommorow...sunday the 16th

brand new to flyfishing ive taken casting classes and have fished out of state for a few months

be happy to hook up with someone who knows the water

Hey Captain, I think I'm gonna head out there tomorrow. I haven't fished putah since before bait season closed. I'm starting to get an ich. My fly box is gone, so I'll have to stop and get some berryessa sporting goods flies.

i am fishing tomorrow, all day, i didnt do to bad on the american today, withing 30 mins of fishing my first spot at the new place that i never fished i caught a nice 14"er, but that was it. i do like this new spot though, gonna have to bring my 5wt next time, had my 6 wt and really couldnt put the line were i wanted it, my 5wt it will be on next time.

Lucky you Brian, gonna be a nice day as far as weather goes, Flows came up to, better a big rise then a big fall. Hit those honey holes and hit em long and hard. A Yuba trip is in the works, maybe next weekend.

A few months ago, the same guy and dog waded through my drift at No. 5 and then began casting in the area where my line would swing out. I got a little twisted, but moved to the back side of No. 5 without saying anything. Not more than 20-minutes later same youthful lab comes crashing through the brush, hits the water through the riffle I was fishing, and then comes over to make friends with me. Nice dog, but I didn't get a good vibe from the owner. Anyway, I let it pass, I figured there was no sense in getting all worked up since I had many more hours of fishing that day.

If the fella with the dog happens to read this...its probably a good idea to work on voice commands for your pup. The other anglers on the water will appreciate it.

I wouldn't bother fishing putah for awhile, There's no fish in there ! The flows are all messed up, theres no bugs, Its like a dead river. Besides its x-mas spend time with the loved ones.

SCM I know who your talkin about that guy trips me out. Dog is very nice though, but that dog will mess up your spot.  I usually only see him down at #5 and usually only in the summer.

I guess we all have encountered the dog. The Dog is very friendly. When he hits the pool you are fishing in, he makes a nice a presentation but only sustains a very short drift. 

The owner is a man of few words.

i have seen him a few times as well, me and cappy was fishing one day at our usual pool above the spawners, and next thing you know this guy and his dog move in right below him, the dog started playin in the water, came up to cappy to check him out, the guy really didnt care and started fishing right where cappy was workin his drift on the swing, kinda pissed us both off, but soon enough the guy left and we had the place to our self again. the one thing i was afraid of is that the dog doesnt know redds, and who knows if that guy does, and with his dog just runnin loose the dog could have walked on the redds, that would really get my blood boiling.

HEY FOLKS, I'm the FNG here and have been to Putah once. It ended abruptly due to my absent mindedness. What a beautiful place. I read the posts on this site all the time and maybe sometime, someone would like to show me the ropes of how to "tame the Putah." Merry Christmas to all..

no didnt get demoted, now gurus are called senior members but those that where gurus now have a earth below there senior member, but hey its just a label, i really dont care, in my eyes i am still a rookie to putah, it will take many many yrs for me to even get close to some of the knowledge that some have of this creek, but you know what, if it takes me many yrs to gain it, i look forward to it. just gotta get out there and fish fish fish, till my hearts content, but content is that even possible. i dont think so.

I fished.....And I fished......And i fished some more, 4 straight days this past weekend, One good day, 3 slow days, All i see when i close my eyes is an indicator, I see em in my dreams even. Monday was good, fish were everywhere. Check this out.....I hooked a big pig, Real big, I lost it after a few seconds, I'm standin there laughin for a good 20 seconds, Then start to strip in the line and on the 3rd strip another fish slammed my pheasant tail, I got this guy to hand, about 14 inches, it was pretty funny. That day there were fish cruising every where, Just under the surface, they were leaving little wakes. Very good day that was. But putah is a tempermental bitch....Go to the same spot, same fly's, same drifts, And nothin, You name it and I drifted it, Was to the point of breakin out the san juan worms, Or Some of those big rubber legged nymphs that have never seen water before  were even  lookin good. Now don't get me wrong i loved every minute of it. Hey MattR, That fish that broke me off right at the bank on sunday was A bueaty, 20 inches min. It was taking to long to get it in so i tried to horse it. Dude theres fish in the high 20's in that spot, I saw plenty of em, Not spawners either man, these guys were cruising and feeding.  Just to much debris coming down river, Every time you pickup to cast its like working the rig thourgh a debris feild, Then ya gotta land your offering in a spot not with to much debris, The amounts of grass coming down river the last 2 days has been really bad. Now it's time to work out next weekends fishin plans !
