not going to put money on it, but i bet its from people fishing putah then hittin up the american. i do fish putah and the american, but i have different wading shoes, and i take care of my waders before i go as well. but since putah is so close and fished by all, bet they got transfered from putah to the american.

That's most likely the case, but they could have also come from the Calaveras or the Mokelumne.

Lately i have been really trying to pay attention to the insect life in putah, Diggin around in the rocks and stuff, I guess its part of the evolution a fly fisherman goes thourgh. But anyways I have noticed that the mud snails are getting really bad ! There are pools were they have basically takin over, There are literally millions of them in a small area, There hangin all over the limbs of underwater plants. I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I haven't been seeing very many cased caddis. But I did find some rather large rockworms last weekend on a log.  So whats gonna happen to putah in say 20 years from now ?

Rockworms don't like fast water OR mud snails don't like fast water???  I thought they both liked fast water.

Sobering...

What's the 911 on the "rockworm(s)" and how do they relate to the snails guys?

Rock worms, aka caseless caddis, are fast water lovers; mud snails don't have a strong preference

Rockworms thrive in the fast water.  Mud snails just plain thrive in water.  The water could be fast-moving, slow-moving, not moving.  Of course the faster water helps the snails disperse.
