The general trout season in california will be close till the last saturday in april brian. Only rivers that will be open are the truckee, all forks of the upper american, north fork yuba, May be a few others that i am missing. But it dosen't matter, Soon there will be too much snow for me to get up to those rivers in  my car.

Just to clarify, from the regs:

Putah Creek (Solano and Yolo cos.) from
Solano Lake to Monticello Dam.
Nov. 16 through the Friday preceding the
last Saturday in April. Only artificial lures with
barbless hooks may be used.

It doesn't specify flies only and it doesn't say single hooks, only artificial and barbless, which still could be spinning gear. Just an FYI

The barbless treble hooks now allowed really angers me.Last year I caught a few hardware slingers trying to foul hook big spawners with their treble hooks and I told them they were breaking the law.Thats when they recited the regulations word for word.Tonite myself and a few others will have a meeting with a DFG official I will again bring this issue up but this is a statewide law and they claim that the use of treble hooks for catch and release will not harm the fish!I really really find it hard to believe. Let us know if there is anything that we can do to help with this issue. Maby a petition or something to start. I love this water and would like to protect what we have here.

The majority of spinners and spoons come with treble hooks attached, so of course spincasters are going to use them.  I think the regulation allowing them stems from enforcement issues, not the harm they cause to the fish.  For those of you who have used treble hooks, you know that they cause more harm than single hooks.  Treble hooks also give snaggers a 3:1 advantage over single hooks.  Not good!

While just a kid on the east coast, and at the time an avid spincaster, the regs stated that we had to replace all treble hooks on our spoons, kastmasters, etc with a single barbless hook. They still were effective lures without the treble hooks and I rarely lost any fish. I know the spincasters here would be upset at first but I'd still like to see that reg changed out here AND enforced.

And, as a friend of mine just learned, barbless really means barbless.  We were fishing on the Truckee and two DFG officers spent about 40 minutes writing him up after one of his two flies was not sufficiently "de barbed". He had crimped it down, but not enough in their opinion.  They were very intense about it, and basically said "you flyfisherman asked for it, now we are giving it to you".   and the fine is about $300.  What I couldn't believe was the way they went about it, my friend thought they were going to take him to jail, and I when I walked up, about 20 minutes in to the ordeal they said "Put that rod down" as if it was a weapon.  It was uncomfortable, but I tell you I have been really taking extra care with those barbs.

To bad about your friend. Sounds like the situation called more for education than a ticket. Your friend's situation has me thinking about simply buying barbless hooks to tie on (although I haven't seen any Tiemco fly hooks that are barbless). Right now I am just pinching barbs flat with a set of pliers.

Tiemco makes barbless hooks, but not all shops carry them.

tiemco makes barbless hooks I think in all of there styles and sizes. The hook style number ends in BL. Example( 100BL ). I dont know where you are located but most fly shops should have them.

dfg when they are out and about they mean business. they dont play around. especially after the few police officers that have been shot and killed in the line of duty. they are very cautious these days. i dont blame them. i wish they would do that more on putah. but again thats dfg for ya. they go to the easy spots to make money not in the middle of no where.

i have seen them take many of rod and reel set ups over little stuff like that. as much as a treble hook that is 1/16th of an inch to big. ya that bad.

Last year on the last day of bait fishing I came caross a dfg warden out beatin the bushes, I was surprised. He said whenever he see's a car parked he goes down and walks the creek until he finds people, That was pretty cool.
