I know it was five days ago but how was the fishing? I grew up on the American and love fishing that river. So how was it and what strech were you fishing?

i fished the watt ave stretch, i did sh-ty almost got stuck on the right hand side of the river facing up stream, and i parked on the east side. ya not good. the flow slows down mid day and picks back up towards the evening, ya that wasnt good, almost had to go all the way around over watt ave bridge then to my car. but i am lucky enough to know exactly where i can cross right above the bridge to where even at 1300 cfs the water is about hip high and could still make it across. but barely. but i would suggesed doing that, drive over watt ave from hwy 50 take your first exit after the american take your right hand turn at the end of that off ramp, drive down about 1/2 a mile and turn in to a parking lot right before a fenced in empty lot, you will see a very small brick building in that empty lot as well, its a water works station. you pass that you went to far, go into that parkin lot park towards the back left side. get your gear and walk over the hill. go down the hill and walk to your left. about 40 yrds you will see a path that goes down another lil hill, it spits left and to the right, go to the left. walk about 75 yrds and you will see a semi clearing on the left had side, take that path, it kinda looks and is a deer trail. when you come out you will be on a lil beach. and thats the spot. you can fish all that area which is really good, then walk all the way down to almostthe bridge and you can cross there. when its at low flow very easy to cross, at high flow still not that bad, but crossable, you just have to know where to cross. its right above the bridge right above where the rapids start showing. cant miss it. dont go above cuz it is stupid deep and gets deep fast, and below the flow get really fast, you walking path is about 20 yrds wide. but once you find it you are good. so cross there then work your way back up stream or down. i meet a guy out there and only caught 2 fish all after noon. i havent fished nimbus damn yet, or sailors bar, or geother, mather, or howe. havent seen to many salmon, saw one that was beat up, and that was it.

i have been fishing the american here and there, fished the watt area, first day out did ok, after that just skunked, tried out the goethe park area on friday, the water looks like it would hold a crap load of fish, on either the high flow or low flow side, both areas looking very fishy. but not one single take.
i am looking to go and fish it again on thursday but in a new spot that i havent fished yet, but have heard some nice things about in a different forum.
one thing that i just found out, also on the other forum, is that the Weir gates were pulled at the hatchery today. Still many salmon pushing up and very few steelhead to be seen. Ones i saw were BIG.
so not gonna fish the other spot that i was gonna hit up, gonna go to the basis for some salmon and steelhead, ill have my 6wt on my person, and the 8wt in the car.
so puttin the invite out there if you would like to go, either pm me or email me at bclemens81@hotmail.com
