Made another trip to the Trinity on Friday. Arrived there at first light. It was misting--almost a rain--but perfect steelhead weather. I fished a run that had a couple of riffles and nice pool and fished on through. I was surprised with no hookups. I fished there for about 30 minutes and tried further down at another pool that had a large boulder in the middle. Saw a salmon that I knew was in the pool. So figured there might be some steelhead also. On the second swing above the boulder, hooked a nice 25" hen who made 2 nice runs, but didn't get into my backing. I only fished for about 2 hours then did some exploring.
Saw a guy who caught a small salmon and he was telling me you have to have an ocean punchcard. I didn't know that. I wasn't fishing for them. But, good to know.
Captain, I was using the 8wt with a size 10 beadhead prince . I started the morning with a Thor with a comet as a dropper. Nothing on those two so switch to something darker.
Matt, I was fishing the Stiener Flat area at Douglas City. The road is about 6 miles and ends at a locked gate. The drift boats usually start towards the bottom of the road which means less pressure above. You will find a lot of turnouts. I might go back this weekend but it probably be monday because some friends want to go.
