Sunday afternoon - flows up and fish down

So - Jcombs and I hit the creek about 2:30 and as soon as we got in the water, I noted that the flows seemed higher than on Friday.  (Jordan -  you'll recall me mentioning that a few times).  When I got home I checked, and sure enough, they bumped them by 60 CFS - but it seemed like more than that to me.  Well, as far as fishing went, it sucked compared to Friday.  Same exact set up for me yielded only a handful of fish - a nice 15 inch native in some fast water, one larger fish hooked and lost, and the rest were 10-12 inchers - maybe a total of 7 fish.  Jordan got a few, but I felt bad b/c for some reason, the snag demons were out to get us.  We each must have retied entire rigs 4 or 5 times, and with not many fish to show for it, that can be frustrating.

Anyway Jordan - keep at it, work on that tightline technique and your dead drifts and you'll be slaying them soon enough.  Oh - and get some felt-bottom studded boots.  And a real net, and some sunglass straps (croakies?), and a vest, and some good shot, and some hemostats, and some nippers, and a wading belt, and all the other stuff we talked about.  Of course, not having money for that stuff doesn't help, as most of us who were poor college students know.  Seriously, you don't need any new equipment - that rod you got is quite nice, and you've got some good flies.  Just get some shot, and for my peace of mind, spring 100 bucks on some good studded felt bottom boots, and a wading belt.  One dunk without a wade belt might be your last.

Next time we hit the creek I hope it's better.

Thanks JL for a great day of fishing. Although the fishing could have been better, I had an awesome time and I learned a ton. Hopefully, the next time we meet up, I will have a new pair of wading boots and a wading belt. I was woefully underprepared for the type of water we fished today. Those were tough wading, albeit great looking, spots you showed me. I looked forward to sticking several Putah Pigs with you in the near future.

Where are some good fly shops near Davis? I'm ready to buy some new gear.

for well made cheap flies, pretty much 50 flies for under 40 bucks shipped for 3 bucks,(anything under 50 bucks is 3 bucks for shipping anything over 50 is free) i added up what it would cost locally, you would spend 85 bucks, only down side with gettin them online is you will have to wait 3 days to get them.
