Fished the yuba thursday.Flow was around 100.Yuba is very pretty and you can wade so much of it...You really feel like your in the middle of know where...Salmon are just starting to come up.egg bite was slow, but fooled a few fish.Put a lot of different flies in the water but nothing really stood out. Caught something on everything but no go to bug.Did use some big stones which is always nice.
Something else great about the yuba is the options on sinking them or floating'um...we hooked them both ways. Most of the rainbows look more like steehead than bows and they fight like them as well....I will be going back very soon and will invite all of you cause there is room on the water for everybody to fish together and its only 1hr20min from putah...
average fish for the day was 15" and about 12 per give or take.Nothing over 20" that we landed(stupid brother) but more over 15 than under...

hey lil whip looks like oyu got a treck ahead of ya, hahaha, gotta love being in sac, so mx what part of the yuba did you fish, yuba city marysville, downieville, where the feather and yuba meet, i live in yuba marysville for 6 yrs when i was in the air force and never thought about fishing it for trout, salmon and strippers yes trout no, hit me on the pm and let me know

great job though, definitly a lil bit different from putah, its always nice to get out and away from the crowds sometime even if you only catch a few, its still nice

I assumed the salmon are starting to show in the lower yuba, I assume you were around marysville, and the hwy. 20 bridge ? Set up behind salmon redds and use egg patterns. Yuba river trout are known for there fighting ability.

I might go on monday.for me It's worth the trip.putah is much closer, but I do that all the time and I have that creek masterd.I enjoy the open space of the yuba and all the access.Iam pretty sure monday will be a good day on the water.when I was there on thurday I was scouting things out with a friend who was guiding there the next day.We did not pound the areas that were holding fish.we wanted to find them and leave them for the next day...I wont know till sunday if Iam going for sure.

so if my memory serves me right you was fishing at the 10th street bridge, which is the big bridge that connects yuba to marysville right, thats the only hwy 20 bridge that i know of, the 5th street is right above there the yuba and feather meet. so guessing the big bridge, i didnt know there was campgrounds over there, and i didnt think it was shallow enough in that area to fish for trout, wow, i could see the 5th street bridge, or even the hwy 65/70 bridge that connects linda to marysville, all those look like great spots for trout, but the yuba on 10th street bridge, might have to hook up with you some time, definitly let me know how it goes on monday

The hwy. 20 bridge is actually several miles outside of marysville. I have fished it a few times with only ok success at best, but i do enjoy fishing there.

you guys are talkin about up in the cutts, near the rock quary, where one side of the bridge is barbless the other is not, and there is a really really nice deep section on the upstream side on the bridge and the down stream side is very very rocky. is that the bridge you guys are talkin about. i have heard about the steelie fishing up there supposed to be good. now mx19 did you check out the upstream or downstream side of the bridge, and what 2 rivers come in upstream of that bridge

The Yuba will probably never be what it was back in the 90's.  Too many people with no idea what they were doing ended my last trip up there years ago.  Twelve fish days back then would suck.

Enjoy what you can of that river  beer.gif

It's a trip to hear ya'll talking about Marysville/Yuba, my family was stationed at Beale in the late 60's. My dad used to take us spin fishing for some big 'ol large mouths in back water stock ponds from the Yuba that I think were owned by a GI friendly farmer!

I was little. That might of been where we were when he was overseas for about 18 mos. That's another story.

Got a new excuse for an adventure! Thanks for the heads up!

ya those ponds are right outside of beale right, at the rock quary. i used to fish those ponds all the time when i was stationed at beale. those ponds are bad ass, i have personally caught bass over 4 lbs out of those ponds, awsome fishing, have eyt to go back to yuba and try anything there with a fly rod, but soon enough i will.

I just finished a class with Dave Sloan starting under the HWY 20 bridge  (about 15min. past Marysville).  The bad news . . . six students and the teacher all drew a big ZERO.

We threw both wet and dries for most of the day.  Fast water and no takers.

Sorry.

Bob

Above the bridge is closed.  Below open w/ artificials and Release of fish.

I just notice I put up a post called TUBA...oops..YUBA is fishing good ...its a bummer that group got skunked....the fishing for us has been very good..big fish as well most above 17" caught in 12" of fast water...notice I did not say deep tail outs or cuts on the bank...the water most of us normally walk through...I wish I could say I found that secret but I stole it from a good friend...
other than that I dont know what to say...We use a drift boat a lot ;but get out and wade as well

you know what the best kind of boat is......

your friends boat....

I have always wanted my own drift boat, but have never needed one..when you have quite a few good friends who are guides and they all have drift boats you never need one of your own.
They still make me row though....

I hate to say it but I think you guys are out of luck....but we can hit the yuba on foot some day and I will hike some miles along side you...

We should wait until we can fish above the hwy. 20 bridge. I'm to lazey to check regs. right now, Not sure if it opens dec. 1st or jan. 1st, I'm sure mx19 knows. The yuba is very cool, It's not all that easy but it defenitly has its own personality, And its an interesting personality.
