It all started as a submarine mechanic for 7 years, then 16years as a safety co-ordinator for Untied Airlines also incident commander for UAL's Haz-Mat Team.Got tired of the long commute so I launched my part time business of being a landscaper into a fulltime career. The guiding business started about 7 years ago and it's a great marriage of two things that I love, and it keeps me from getting burned out in either. To become a guide you should have a qulification in CPR;liability insurance and be bonded. You must also apply with the DFG and explain  you're qualifications to become a guide,if accepted you must purchase a guide license $$$$ and keep track of everybody you take out including where when how many fish were caught what size and species. You must then submit this info back to the DFG at the end of every month. And most of all you must be VERY VERY PATIENT.

Retired now.  Used to be a computer programmer/analyst and then a supervisor.  Had to take early retirement because of a medical problem.  The good news is that the free time has allowed me to fish Putah a lot more.
