Fished the lower Sac yesterday on a nice float with a guide in training. He was great and the fishing was too. Hooked around 15 and landed 11 or 12...beautiful rainbows all 14 to 17 inches, one 17 inch steelhead and a real nice small mouth bass on one of the little creeks that feed into the river. Fox pupa, salmon fly larvae, prince nymphs worked the best. Love the way those trout up there fight and jump. Floating the Sac is definitely cadillac fishing, but it's pretty nice to have a day where you hook into a bunch of fish.
I did a 2 day drift trip on the lower Sac last year. Absolutely fantastic fishing. We caught a ton of fish. I hooked two salmon while I was there too. They are a lot of fun on a 5 wt.
I'll be going up again in October. Thanks for the report. I'm getting excited about going again
