Can't do the Carson Thursday as I will be on my way to Bridgeport with my Mom to fish the Walker and surrounding area. Sounds like the Carson would be a plan in a few weeks.

Oh flygirl I'm sooo jealous I have been planning a fall trip to the Walker for a while now but I've never been there.  I hear it is dry fly paradise for big rainbows and browns, with numbers comparable to rivers in Montana.  Maybe that is just hype but it sounds AWESOME to me!  You have to tell us how it goes up there.  I hope you catch a big fall brown!  I think I'll be going to the Truckee at the end of the month and maybe N. Yuba next weekend, but I don't know if the Walker is in the cards for me this season...sigh

Hey flygirl, you gonna fish the west, east or little walker river ? I spent a week there early last june, Its awesome over there, The scenery is amazing. You should try to fish the east walker, I Fshed it a bit and there are tons of fish in there, I mostly caught browns, largest was about 16 inches. The fish in there will test your skill to the max. I could literally see fish everywhere, But they are very finicky. It should be a good oppurtunity to catch fish on dry's, A nice change from putah. you should concentrate on about the first mile or so below the bridgport resavoir dam. The water is going to be low, and somewhat warm, But the cooler temps. we have had may make for some good fishing, the browns are gonna start spawning anytime now, So you may get into some large concentrations of fish. Wind is also almost always a factor when fishing the eastern sierra's so be prepared for it. Be very careful of rattlesnakes. My trip to the walker rivers was something i'll never forget, Iplan to do it every year from now on. good luck to ya. I'd stop at the tackle shop in bridgeport for info. I forget the name of it, but you can't miss it. When I go over that way I take hwy. 108 over sonora pass then take hwy 4 over ebbets pass on the way back. bueatiful drive, And you will see alot of places your gonna wanna plan to fish sometime as well.

Chuck I have been wanting to fish the n. yuba around downieville, theres also a little gem over that way known as lavazolla creek. Would love to hear a report. My last vacation days are reserved for 5 days on the upper sac. and a few days on the middle fork stanislaus in early october. I'm praying to the fish gods everday that there will be huge browns pouring up into the upper sac. from lake shasta for a spawning run. headbang.gif

Not sure exactly where to start once we get up to Bridgeport, but will definitely take your advice. We will hit the fly shop first, give them a little business, and get some advice. My grandparents used to have a cabin up on Green Creek...still there with different owners...so my Mom spent her teenage summers there. It is a very special place for her. I am really looking forward to trying some dry fly fishing and adding some browns to my catch list. I'll take some pictures and post a report when I get back. Thanks for the advice.
