Fished the Stanislaus below Tulloch last weekend on the way back from racing the gang in the long barn area.  The flows are at a reasonable flow now.  The fishing was good.  The fish were slamming the olive poohpahs.  If you know this area you can hook several fish in the evening on various dry flies.  My favorite is a black midge size 20 to 22.  Black thread and grizzly hackle.  Heading up to Milton Reservoir this weekend to do some motofishing on the middle fork of the Yuba.

Oh yeah float tubed the Putah this week and landed six fish above #1.  I managed to land an 18"er and lost another big fish that I never saw.  I fought the fish for a long time before it finally broke me off in a bush.

I haven't heard from you in a while, Otter.  Was there any size to the fish on the Stanislaus?  I haven't fished that section of river this year.  I fished it once last year, but the flows were super high.  I don't think they ever went down last year.  From what I remember, it's a lot like fishing Putah--small flies and big, hard-fighting rainbows.

The largest fish this time was only about 14". This section of the Stanislaus is very similar to Putah. Midges work very well, so do the micro mayflies and poopahs. You can high stick the riffles during the day. Indicator nymph all over and dry fly the pools in the evening. The fish will generally take larger flies, but make sure you have some 22s. There are some very large fish in here and they do fight well.

The fly fishing only section is the next exit past Knights Ferry. The turnoff is in the middle of the hill, and is fairly dangerous. It is about 1/2 mile after the road turns into four lanes. I think it says to Tulloch lake.
