I will be heading up to lake Almanor at the end of July and Would like some tips on fly fishing the lake and streams feading it. I also will be fishing with my two daughters and wife, who are going to try fly fishing for the first time. I have been fly fishing for years and can put the time in and find what is working but being that it is there first time it is reel imporntant that we get results quick. You know it is just like taking a young kid fishing for the first time If they dont have luck quick they dont like the sport. But if they get that first fish quick you are looking at a new fisherman for life. I know the area fairly well. I know that the Hamilton branch is probably the best bet but would like any input. I would relly like for them to have success and become hooked. I also would like some input on fly fishing the lake. I dont have much experiance fly fishing on a lake.

On small streams the fish are opportunistic. An ant or beetle pattern should produce good results. I would buy or tie them in #12-18 and then match the size in the area.
