Worked the weekend and I know have two days off.  Fished the creek from 8 this morning until three.  Do any bugs live in this place anymore? Perhaps I left too early.  Not even a midge hatch to be seen.  Three fish on various bugs, nothing over 12".  It was slightly overcast all day with a mix of sun peeking.  Absolutely georgous and you would think a good fishing day with scattered cloud cover but it was tough because you could still feel the heat coupled with tough wind.  I talked to a gentelmen who said we were at 530 cfs or so. The littlest of my three fish, a stout little 8" native took a gold bodied soft hackle on the first cast of the day before it even started swinging.  Any day that starts out like that is good no matter what and this is the second time recently on Putah this has happened.  That'll wake you up quick!

I haven't seen too many bugs myself lately.  It really puts a damper on the fishing.  Things should start to pick up soon, though.  I remember a couple of years ago about this time of year there were two times in a row that I didn't see any insects or catch any fish.  The next time out there were tons of mayflies in the air.  The swallows and blackbirds were going nuts, as well as the fish.
