I got back from Plumas county the other day and the water level on the MFF is dropping pretty fast due to the lack of a significant snowback this year. Conditions now are similar to those in July of last year. The forrest service is really concerned about fires this year and are proposing the closure of many dirt roads in the area. The fly fishing shop in Quincy seems really concerned about the lack of water and the road closures. Can't be good for business. Here's a shot of the MFF where I stayed one evening. The fishing was pretty good using a #12 orange stimulator with a #16 fox poopah dropper. The late evening hatch was moderate to good with a few plus 5 lbers. slapping the water.
Here I am with my Sage 4 wt. checking out the bank for risers...
Next I headed towards Lake Almanor to get to the fly fishing section of Yellow creek. Indian creek looked really good, but I wanted to do some sight seeing so I continued on towards Humbug valley.
Here's a shot of Yellow creek in Humbug valley:The water level of Yellow creek was pretty low, but the cattle didn't seem to mind.
Here's a shot of Soda Springs which apparently the Indians used the water in the 1800's for medicinal purposes. Overall the trip was fun. Looks like Jamison and Indian creeks are in prime condition. Wish I could have explored more, but had to get back to the Bay Area.
