What a difference two weeks can make. Went for half a day today and landed only a few fish. The flows are going up and a lot of water that was very productive two weeks ago is now a little to deep and a little to fast. In fact I noticed flows increase while I was in the river, which didn't help.
All fish landed opted for fox pupa. Got some grabs in the evening on small fry imitations, just enough to keep hope up and keep fishing. At sundown fish started to rise for 15 minutes, what a tease, managed to hook one for about a second.
For me once the flows go over 400 CFs I hardly fish Putah anymore. I might try float tubing this year.
You should try float tubing. It's pretty cool. I went out in my float tube yesterday and today, landing quite a few fish. A couple were caught on a micromay. The others were caught on an olive midge. Most of the takes were super subtle making it difficult to detect strikes. I had to watch my indicator like a hawk. Any slight bump or movement had me setting the hook.

JT which section did you float tube. In all the years of fishing Putah this is something I have never tried. I am thinking of hitting lake Solano once the flows stabilize.
This weekend I floated above access #1. In the evening I went up below the dam, but the wind was howling. It wasn't too bad in the afternoon, but the wind really picked just before dark. A couple of weeks ago I floated another section below the bridge.
As far as floating the whole creek, I wouldn't recommend it, especially in a float tube. Ask Bono about that one. There are lots of slow sections that are easily fishable from a tube. Just make sure that you get out before you get stuck in fast water. It's pretty easy to maneuver when you stick to back eddies. If you want tips on floating these sections, ask Otter. He's a pro.
