Has anyone ever seen a caddis pupa swim?  I saw one a couple of weeks ago while float-tubing.  I never would have imagined it, but they look like big waterboatmen.  I swore it was a waterboatman until I netted it and got a closer look.  When I got home, I googled "swimming caddis pupa" and found this article by Oliver Edwards--a tier of super-realistic flies:

I've tied up some prototypes and can't wait to try them.  I tried one of the patterns, but it was on a day when nothing was working for me.  I managed a couple hits on the swing but no fish were hooked or landed.
