I had to get out to the creek again before I go back to school tomorrow. Putah kicked my butt today. Actually, the wind kicked my butt today. The wind was howling straight downstream the whole time I was there. To even think about getting a drag-free drift I had to nymph downstream. There were some midges in the air as well as a few olive-bodied caddis about #16. I hooked three on an #16 olive caddis pupa. They were all able to throw the hook, though. I hooked another on a #20 midge. This fish broke me off. The smallest fish hooked was about 16". The one that broke me off was a monster! Sure, you say, anybody can say that about a fish he didn't land. Especially when there weren't any witnesses. Without the wind, itcould have been an amazing day.I hope the wind dies down after this storm system passes.
