I really shouldn't have, but I just had to.  I have so much homework and studying to do right now, but I can't go that long without fishing.  I shouldn't be fishing for another two weeks, when finals are over.  I only lasted two weeks.  Four weeks would have been entirely too long.  KHB, you were right.  What can I say?  I'm an addict.  I fished the creek for two hours this morning.  You'd think with the higher flows (98 cfs) that it would be easier to get a good drift, but not with all that wind.  I made a mistake and brought my 3 wt today.  I had to haul just to mend the line.  It was a workout, but I managed to land 9 fish, losing only 3.  There were tons of midges on the water when I got to the creek about 9 AM.  Not too long after I got there caddis started coming off of the water as well.  At about 10:30 AM, some beefy caddis started hatching.  I would guess they were about #10-12, much bigger than the #16-18 that were emerging earlier.  Actually, both species continued to hatch until I left at about 11 AM.  The fish didn't seem to key in on the caddis, though.  They just kept on eating my #20 midge pupa.  Only two of the fish took the #16 tan Fox Poopah.  It was a pretty good day on the creek.  I actually a caught a fish on my first cast today.  That doesn't happen too often, so it's always cool.  I just wish that I could have fished longer.  Who knows how the bugs will be hatching later on today.  I imagine there will be some decent hatches with the warmer weather.

Yes, the caddis hatch below the RV park was pretty intense from 10:30 to Noon or so.  They were pretty large.

I laned this one after he kept gulping emergers around my various attempts at caddis dries. He took a nice surface shot at my second dry, and bolted back down into the deep.  Finally, he chomped into an 18 Adams with brown and red hackle and I was able to net him.

Water was 'round 50 degrees from 9am til I left at Noon.

I arrived on the creek around 10:30, just before JT left.  For me it was a slow day.  I hooked 3 and lost all 3.  The last one was a hog.  He took an 18 PT flashback.   He was on for about 45 seconds before he broke me off.

I was out friday, didn't get any fish, I stuck to dries all day without a dropper, Theres was alot of small, Maybe size 18 light colored mayflies on the water, And alot of fish were rising. Made it back out today (sun. 11th) fished around access #1 and #2 hooked two smallish fish on #16 pheasant tails, And one bruiser that was a good 18 inches on a "putah riffle special" this guy hung me up twice, first time I got it free, second time he won. Over all a beautiful day on putah, alot of people around but not many of em fishing. Was planning to do some float tubing but was a little to breezy.

Fishermans Friend.  That my friend is a beautiful fish.  What colors!  Awesome, makes me want to leave the office right now and go.  That fish looks very healthy too, that is very encouraging.  Good Luck to all.

I think a told a bunch of you.  I had hand surgery three weeks ago, so I have not been able to fish, but with a little (or a lot) of encouragement from JT, I have been practicing my left handed presentation.  If you see me on the creek, I'll be the guy with the cast (literally)

KHB, I can relate to your hand problem, few years ago I completely severed a nerve in my left hand and have no feeling to this day, this is the main reason it took so long for me to take up fly fishing as I find it rather time consuming to tie on tippets, and small flies, and fly tying I think is out of the question. Just takes me a little more time then your average. One thing I ment to mention on my last post, when I was fishing this past weekend I really noticed that the bites that I had were extremely sutle, just a slight dip of my indicator and I use a very small trimmed poly yarn indicator, The few people I have seen lately are using much to large of an indicator in my opinion. I also would like to thank the gentleman that was picking up trash around access 1 on sunday morning, after that I figured I should pick up a few things as well, so maybe if we all could just pickup a few things when were out there, cause we all know the beer guzzling, trash throwing, spin fishers are coming soon.

you can use a VERY small indicator, I mean the size of an egg, actually. I was turned on to this new product Levitate by the guys at American Fly in Sacramento. AWESOME stuff. Its a sort of beady material, but when you crush it, it makes a coat of air dry material over anything you put it on. Last time I was out I actually used an egg as an indicator and the Levitate made it float all day. Rediculous stuff, it can even make a beadhead nymph float. Check it out.

Thanks for the tip SFG.  I am going to be at American Fly this weekend and will check out the new product.  Is it actually designed as a floatant for dries, or specifically for indicators?

Phil
