LOL i ditched college today to go the creek and Solano lake to tryout my new waders,i know but it was worth it.
Water is down abit alot of fish activity on the surface,i drove up to the dam and there was only one person fishing . I see there is alot more openings to fish along the road, there is alot of picnic tables beeing put in along the rivers and i see there is more routes mowed down by a bobcat making more accesible fishing spots. Caught and released 3 nothing to big
I've ditched school a few times myself to fish the creek and other waters. I wish I could do it right now. I would if it wasn't the end of the quarter. I have finals coming up next week along with a couple of projects that are due. Here in a couple of weeks I'll probably be able to do the same.

What kinda waders did you get? Always like to hear about new epuiptment. Yeah I have noticed some maintanence along the creek the last few weeks. Won't be long now before the bait chucking, beer can tossing morons arrive, Oh well let em have the planters.
Theres a hell of alot of maintanence right now ,alot of new trails and markers along the road, and i see there is beware of moutain lion signs everywhere too. I actual purchased Duckunlimited chest waders with the big pocket in the front ,but i have to buy boots as they are those sock bottom kinda looking things.i always have a worry that the ones with the boots already there are going to fall off LOL..but i think ill just buy a pairs of sneakers do the job.....
finals so early wat gives? im in napa now will have my degree this semster hopefully then maybe Davis or Sonoma.
I'm at UC Davis. We're on the quarter system, so each term is only ten weeks long. It makes it tough. This quarter ends next Wednesday. Finals start next Friday. The new quarter starts on 28 March. That quarter ends in the middle of June. Then we have three months off. It's nice because we get through two terms in the time that most schools get through one.
As far as waders go, I also have stockingfoot waders. Most people do. When you wear boots over the top of them, you can get more ankle support. I need that. My ankles are weak now thanks to skateboarding.
It sounds like they're making some changes on the creek. I've never seen any warning signs for mountain lions. I've never seen any mountain lions in the area. I know that they're there. I've just never seen one. I did see a hefty bobcat a couple of years ago.

Weak ankles from skateboarding? Tell me about it. I skated hard for 9 years in my youth and still every once in awhile hop back on the ol' wood. Sometimes just walking in waders you take a little slip and bam ankle shot! I think it's funny cuz when I slowed down on the skateboarding I needed something to fill the missing void in my life, and there came fly fishing which now I do just as hard as I used to skate. I love this sport just as much as I did skateboarding. I think it's cool to see others that come from my same backround hopping into the fly fishing scene, I think thats awsome. - peace.
I skated for quite a few years. I still have a board that I ride every once in a while. I actually skated the other night in front of my house. It was too nice of a day and I had to take a break from studying for a few minutes. I don't have the board control that I used to, but it was still cool to step back on a board.

I got a couple of "things" to report. One, I visited with one of the parks guys a couple of weeks ago. He said they were going to clean up the place and prune and cut to make access for fisherman better. I kinda of like the struggle to get the the water. It is part of the experience and only the hardy and serious will make the trek.
The other is a comment to the weak ankle crew from years of skating.....on the most modern of equipment. In my day(I am dating myself) in So. Cal we would cut the steel wheel units off of shoe skates and nail them to 2 X 8's, the first skate boards. We hurt all over too much to consider any one place such as ankles . Cheers, time is passing and I am off the the river right now!
What is it with these old skaters turning into flyfisherman, I to am an old skater at the age of almost 36. I dont skate anymore but I will ride the hell out of a snowboard like there's no tomorrow. Hey you guys ever skate in the glory hole below the dam? We used to skate that thing in the late 80's and early 90's that was one mean full pipe. I think its 30' in diameter. All I know is when you got close 3 or 9 o'clock that pipe got scary fun. Anyway right on for the reports everyone it's been a couple weeks for me since I've fished the creek. Been getting a good # of steelies on the A past couple months though. Hey you old skaters we should meet sometime and do some fishing....
I wouldn't just go out and get a set of sneakers for your stocking foot waders, You need ankle support and more important you need felt bottoms, Its pretty surprising how well the felt provides good traction on slippery rocks. I have to agree that I like putah the way it is as far as access goes, Makes it a little harder to get to some of the spots that are off the beatin path, can't tell ya how many times i've literally crawled on my hands and knees thourgh berry bushes to get to a spot, Heck its part of the fun. I really hope the flows stay up cause i'm hittin it hard tommorrow, a good ol sun up to sun down trip planned. Anyone gonna be around stop and say hi, I'm the guy in grey and black waders, grey chest pack, black cal baseball hat, and a self taught wood chopping, bug swatting, fly cracking casting style
If I could go, I'd be there. I'm going through major withdrawals right now. I feel like a crack fiend who needs a serious fix. Good luck tomorrow. Keep the reports coming.

I feel your pain JT, a week without fishin is like a day without air, it just can't happen, for me anyways. I'm gonna be concentrating hard on dry's tommorrow, small and black has seemed to be the ticket the last few weekends, but the fish also always seem to show some interest in an elk hair caddis.
Another skaterat turned fly fisherman. I have skated just about every skatepark built in California. I have never skated the pipe coming out of the dam, but about two or three years ago I used to watch the youngsters skate the pipe below the dam while I was hauling in 20 to 24 inch fish. I think that is why the water district put in a new fence. The fence is broken, but the pipe is still there. I say we have an old timers fish and skate contest. Highest sticker on the Putah pipe and biggest fish. Ok back to fishing here is one of those Putah rainbows caught last week. The fishing has been up and down, but the fish are still hitting rusty spinners and Barr emergers.
Here's some irony for you... I've been out all week and the fish are laughing me off of the creek. I found a spot where there are fish everywhere feeding actively with splashy rises as well as belly rolls and sub surface swirls. Too bad because one of you guys could definitely catch these fish and I am just blowing it!

Fished yesterday, Thurs from about 3-6pm. Managed to catch 3 on fox poopah and Z wing caddis(after 4:30). One was a sweet colorful 23". Still I would say the fishing was slow, I did not get many hits.......that I could detect. I did fish the opposite bank from Chuck the Duck. There were enough rises for my to try a dry/dropper set up. I used an EC caddis with a fox poopah dropper and then a beatis emerger. I had no takes. Could also have been the quiality of my dead drift.
Did your droppers have bead heads? If I don't use a bead head nymph when fishing in the current, the nymph doesn't sink to the fish's level. It leaves some slack in the line, and makes it almost impossible to detect a strike if a fish does grab it.

No, I did not use a bead head. The current was very slow but what you say makes sense.I will try the bead head next time when I go out.........which will be tues afternoon. Maybe your not in class JT. My last class, as a teacher, gets me on the river about 2:45....and with daylight saving time tonight we have an hour more, plus the extra 8 or so minutes each day. Sorry, the science teacher coming out in me.
I wish I could make it out , but I work Tuesday evenings. Between school and work, I don't have too much time to fish. This next quarter I won't have classes on Fridays, so I'll be able to fish a little more.
