Has anyone fished this lately for Steel Head? Was looking for information on where, how, with what and if any spectacular guides.
My recomendation right now would be the Feather. I fished right down town Oriville on Saturday and had a blast. We landed two sucker fish and I had two amazing battles in 2.5 hrs One SH was such a monster that it broke my 3x tippet. The fish ladder at the Hatchery is Amazing as well.
www.jeffbright.com. This sight is amazing and so is his photography. This guy really inspired me to try steel head fishing. I booked a trip through the Fly shop and on my first drift down the trinity landed a 15lb buck. Unbelievable.
I've never gone after Russian River steelhead, but I hear it's a very hit or miss fishery. Apparently the quality of fishing depends on how clear/muddy the river is (The Russian can go off color with just a bit of rain). However, I hear the river has been unusually clear this year since there hasn't been much rain. So you might want to check it out.
I don't really know of any guides that work that area, but the Chronicle fishing reports says that Outdoor Pro Shop in Rohnert Park is a good source of info.
