No New Posts steelhead fly swap? ( 1 2 3 ) (Preview)
If this is a repeat forgive me... Who is down for a steelhead fly swap? I've been sitting at the vise and have a @#$% for steelhead flies! I don't care if its swung, dead drifted, nymphed, indicated or dry flied... if its targeting steelhead, lets swapit.  With that said I've never run a swap so bare w...

No New Posts zpoxy 5minute epoxy (Preview)
I was making up a batch of this z-poxy 5 minute epoxy stuff and I thought it is supposed to be clear.  I followed the directions and made up a few batches.  All of it turned out a milky white, even when dried.  I bought the stuff at Sweeney's, seems pretty straight forward from the directions. Anbody have...

No New Posts Buying vs. Tying your own (Preview)
I've heard from people in the past on here and on Kienes that tying your own flys does not save you money. I'm kinda confused, cuz at an average of 2 bucks a fly it costs me at least 20 bucks for 10 flys. That's if I don't buy bead headed flys. Those cost 2.35. So I'm looking at 20-30 bucks for 10 flies. I can tie 3...

No New Posts Tiemco hooks - consistently sharp? (Preview)
I must admit that I have been disappointed with the consistency of the sharpness of Tiemco hooks, particularly the 2x heavy hooks (e.g. 3769, 2457, 3761).  The smaller sizes of theses hooks are more consistently sharp (but not all of them), but the larger sizes seem to be much more inconsistent.  Ear...

No New Posts Marabou nymphs (Preview)
I think the two most important materials in a fly tiers arsenals are pea**** herl and marabou, in that order. They have so much appeal, and at least a dozen well known flies use them, if not a hundred. I found a recipe years ago in a book I own named Trout Flies of The West. In it there was a tying style from a Co...

With all of this cold weather, my head cement gets really goopy. I've tried to put the jar in a glass of warm water for a while, but that didn't really help all that much. You guys have any suggestions? -Jon

Okay here's the question.  Since our hatches are so messed up this year(right now) what's everybody tying?  I am working on some stuff for next week but was sorta curious about what else you folks are working on.

No New Posts New Hooks (Preview)
Anybody try these hooks out?  My buddy got them at the Pleasanton show.  Barbless tying hooks from Sweden I think?  These are the scud czech nymph model.  The are also slightly off center like a gama octopus.  Pretty cool.

No New Posts Tube fly (Preview)
Ok This is my first ever tube fly. It was inspired by a article in Fly tyer mag. The tube is from a Q Tip. The tube vice attachment is a 4D finishing nail that I cut the head off of and flattened with a hammer. I think it all went pretty well for the first pass, I wanted more olive in the hackle area but used what I h...

No New Posts Scuds (Preview)
I was fishing one of our valley tailwaters this weekend and discovered its full of small light olive scuds. So I was curious does anyone use scud patterns locally ? I've never really gave them much thought, But I will now. Anybody have any favorite scud patterns ?

No New Posts Perfect or imperfect (Preview)
I have noticed over the years that some of the flys that I have tied poorly work better than perfect copy of a pattern. Of course when this happens this I keep tying in the new varriation. No New Posts thread ? (Preview)
What brand off thread do you preffere for basic fly's in the 16 to 20 size range. I've been using danville but have recently found uni-thread to be a much better thread. I also had been tying most often with 6/0 but have found that 8/0 works better for most of my applications.

No New Posts A question about scissors (Preview)
What do you guys use to cut wire close to the body (say on a copper john)? I've been using my Dr. Slick scissors and (as I expected) it's not too great for them. Wire cutters don't work for the close up work. Vince

I always liked these threads, so I'll start one. Let's see pics of what you're tying this winter and/or pictures of your fly boxes. Anyone tying steelhead flies? Vince Tied Down Caddis - I have no idea what the shellback does, as you can't see it from underneath. Maybe it just makes it more buoyant.

No New Posts Twinkie Fly (Preview)
Was on the water yesterday and watched a guy guy hook up with about 4 or 5 fish in 15 minutes. I was watching intently and trying to learn with my eyes.
