I've been experimenting with glass beads in my patterns for quite a while now. They can be used for beadhead nymphs, in the thorax, or in the abdomen of different patterns. If anyone is interested in tying with these beads, there is a shop in Fairfield called "Bead Time" that sells them. They are located on Oliver Road between West Texas and Travis Blvd. They specialize in beads, so they have tons of colors and quite a few sizes of beads. For a few dollars you can buy enough beads to last a lifetime.

I started out using glass beads on my beadhead patterns. You can use more realistic or attractive colors for heads. They don't help much with sink rate, but they look cool. I would try beads on any of your regular patterns.
Next, I tried Mercer's Glasstail Caddis Pupa. I think you can find it on the internet. It's in Mercer's new book. I'm also experimenting with extended body midges. But most of the patterns are still in the experimental phases. I haven't even fished most of them. I'll let you know more after I've tested them, though.
